NYPD Elevated

Kite Publishing.com has a 14 minute WMV video from one of the New York Elevation shows where U2 invited (they say invented, but I don’t think U2 invented this) the New York Police/Fireman onstage. Get it while you can.

  3. I saw them in Baltimore the week before and when Bono took an American flag from the audience and hugged it during New Year’s Day, it was intense. But this… this is something else. And sadly, it feels like ancient history. As an American I knew the time for unilateral pro-American sentiment would end. But where do we go from here?

  5. I am not American, but this is my observation on where America has gone. Keep in mind, I could be wrong, since I live in Canada. I do believe that in an attempt to get over 9-11, America as a whole wanted to get back to a sense of normalcy so instead of re-evaluating what was important in their lives, how they acted towards others around them, and instead of saying “maybe we’re hated in certain countries because we’re so selfish and only care about our own economy and living conditions”, the people simply went back to what they were before all of this happened, to get back to normal, and the novelty of the abundance of patriotism wore off. Now instead of promoting peace, and helping other countries, swallowing their pride in the process, they’re gonna bomb everyone and continue the never ending “war on terrorism”. It makes Mr. Bush look good, and keeps him there, as it is a war that will never end unless America gets over itself and tries to help other countries instead of bombing them… there you go… rant finished. :^)

  7. America get over themselves? What!! I think everyone on this planet needs to read this. This was sent by a 78
year old former nun. The thoughts are pure and we all understand the point….
    GOD BLESS AMERICA!!!
There are a few things that those who have recently come to our country,
    and
apparently some native Americans, need to understand. First of all, it is
not our responsibility to continually try not to offend you in any way.
This idea of America being a multi cultural community has served only to dilute
our sovereignty and our national identity.
As Americans, we have our own culture, our own society, our own language,
and our own lifestyle. This culture, called the “American Way” has been
developed over centuries of struggles, trials, and victories by millions of men and women who have sought freedom.
Our forefathers fought, bled, and died at places such as Bunker Hill,
Antietam, San Juan, Iwo Jima, Normandy, Korea, Vietnam… We speak
    English,
not Spanish, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Russian, or any other language.
Therefore, if you wish to become part of our society learn our language!”

In God We Trust” is our national motto. This is not some off-the-wall,
Christian, Right Wing, political slogan – it is our national motto. It is
engraved in stone in the House of Representatives in our Capitol and it is
printed on our currency. We adopted this motto because Christian men and
women, on Christian principles, founded this nation and this is clearly documented throughout our history. If it is appropriate for our motto to
    be
inscribed in the halls of our highest level of Government, then it is
certainly appropriate to display it on the walls of our schools.
God is in our pledge, our National Anthem, nearly every patriotic song,
and in our founding documents. We honor His birth, death, and resurrection as holidays, and we turn to Him in prayer in times of crisis. If God offends you, then I suggest you consider another part of the world as your new home, because God is part of our culture and we are proud to have Him. We are proud of our heritage and those who have so honorably defended our
freedoms. We celebrate Independence Day, Memorial Day, Veterans Day, and
Flag Day. We have parades, picnics, and barbecues where we proudly wave
    our
flag. As an American, I have the right to wave my flag, sing my national anthem, quote my national motto, and cite my pledge whenever and wherever
    I
choose. If the Stars and Stripes offend you, or you don’t like Uncle Sam, then you should seriously consider a move to another part of this planet.
The American culture is our way of life, our heritage, and we are proud of it. We are happy with our culture and have no desire to change, and we really don’t care how you did things where you came from. Like it or not, this is our country, our land, and our lifestyle. Our First Amendment gives every citizen the right to express his opinion about our government, culture, or society, and we will allow you every opportunity to do so. But once you are done complaining, whining, and griping about our flag, our pledge, our national motto, or our way of
life, I highly encourage you take advantage of one other great American freedom: THE RIGHT TO LEAVE!
Another thing: To those who do complain about the usage of words like
‘God’and American’ and speaking the language of our great nation, TRY GOING TO ANOTHER COUNTRY AND SPEAK AGAINST WHAT YOU DON’T LIKE. YOU WILL MORE THAN
LIKELY END UP JAILED OR EVEN KILLED.
In America, you take your right to complain for granted. The more
    patriotism
that is removed from where our children are taught, the less our children will learn about what it is to be an American and our nation’s spirit will
    slowly be taken away.
If you agree, pass this onto other Americans!! It is time to take a
    stand!!

    God Bless America!

  19. Although Dudelove and Fan since ’80 have a right to their opinion, I can’t believe either of you would say what you just said on this site. Please. Thank you U2log for posting a great clip from a U2 concert. Maybe next time I will skip the comments. I figured it would be about the clip and how great it was to see part of a U2 concert but as usual someone has to bitch about something else. Dudelove-your not an American so you cannot understand what that day felt like to all Americans. Next time someone blows up 2000+ people in Canada lets see how your national leader responds. Let’s see how many flags are flown and how patriotic you Canadians get. Fan since 80…wow. This is a site about a music group not Christianity. Not everyone believes in that bullshit so why don’t you keep your Christian thoughts to yourself. Maybe I should leave the country now….

  21. You know we would help other countries…but everytime we do those countries end up hating us. People have an instinct to bite the hand that feeds them. So we shouldnt help other countries. You cant give people things.

  27. Everybody cool it! Enough with the moral lectures. America was, (at the time of this clip)and is still in a very complicated position. Nobody outside of the borders of the USA should be expected to understand this complicated position. It is easy to throw stones from across the ocean or border (whereever you might be). I am the American son of Irish immagrants, my extended Irish family is always trying to salg the US and pass ‘higher moral’ judgments. The fact is they don’t really understand. They never will. Just as I will never truly understand the problems with the IRA and North v. South, the Republic v. the UK etc. Eonough with the moral lectures, you just couldn’t understand if you tried.

  29. besides the obvious moral content of the clip, what do you all think of the music in that. Walk On had a little solo from edge at the end because it was an extended version. And how about finishing the show with Out of Control. Very nice touch. I say the guitar techs and sound engineers had a moment when all the NYPD & EMS boys and girls on!?!

  31. I’m sorry, U2log, for opening that can of worms! I was just mourning the end of a moment of uncanny unity and, strangely enough in the face of such tragedy, a return to innocence. It’s not so simple anymore.
Meanwhile, U2 is the best band in the world. 🙂

  33. Fan since 80 wrote, “This idea of America being a multi cultural community has served only to dilute our sovereignty and our national identity.”…..This sentiment is one I’ve heard before..Usually from the most ignorant members of our society… It’s a very popular ideal among the KKK… NO NO, Fan since 80.. We are a great big multi cultural society and PROUD OF IT! This is a place where you are free to believe in (or not believe in) God, Allah, Voodoo Man or the Easter Bunny. To all our friends outside the USA – Please disregard this nonsensical, hateful spew. Everyone is welcome to follow their dreams in America and bring thier language, torah, koran or totem pole with them! And DUDELOVE, I respect your opinion..Unfortunately for us, we have a president whose every action to date has been purely political…No sitting president has ever lost an election during time of war and oil sweetens the deal…It’s just that simple.(ugly ain’t it?) So yes, a very bittersweet and sobering time has passed…..This clip from Madison Square Garden brought me right back to that time of October 27, 2001… It was a sad time, full of renewed patriotism, unity and introspection, since replaced by cynicism. Thanks again for posting it!!

  35. I was hoping to get a comment from an American that’s not ignorant and racist. Thank you Mr. Hurley. I just want to make a couple things clear as well. I am not trying to diminish the impact of all the people that died on 9-11. It was a tragedy and I understand that much. It’s just in all that time of introspection and patriotism, where does America find itself now? Almost exactly like where it was before 9-11. And I really having a hard time swallowing the attitude of “we’re the biggest country in the world so fuck everyone else”. When was the last time that America truly helped a country without resorting to bombs? I am not trying to downplay what happened on 9-11, and what happened in the months after. I am simply requesting that people look at the bigger picture. Oh, and it is impossible for me to view that clip, since I suffer from having a visual impairment (being blind). And one last thing, fansince80… I respect your opinion, doesn’t mean I agree with it, why are you so defensive when presented with mine? I am not looking to make enemies. I was just interested in having an intellegent debate. No hard feelings.

  37. Ms. Hurley, did you not read my follow up post? More importantly how dare you align me with the KKK, wrong move and unfair. Where do you live and did you lose family on September 11, 2001? Also, yes we love our multi-cultural America…but do you agree that the first thing a new person in our country should do is learn the language instead of buying a Celica GTS? That was the Nun’s point I believe…and again it was a quote I shared, not one I spoke. Ignorance is usually a word used by the MOST ignorant.
    Peace, again…

Also, yes we love our multi-cultural America…but do you agree that the first thing a new person in our country should do is learn the language instead of buying a Celica GTS? That was the Nun’s point I believe…and again it was a quote I shared, not one I spoke. Ignorance is usually a word used by the MOST ignorant.
    Peace, again…

  41. It wasn’t personal, but your one line “America gets over itself”, made me want to share that quote. There are parts that ring true and some that are overtly Christian and obviously lean towards racism. Let’s remember this was a 73 YO Nuns thoughts, I didn’t think it was my right to edit her thoughts. I guess it wasn’t a good idea to post that…again, and again…Peace! One last thought and this is not a racist statement…If I go into a Chinese retaurant and they speak chinese…fine. If I go into a 7-11 or a Joe’s Deli and can’t get directions or communicate at all because they don’t speak english is just f’n WRONG…don’t you agree?

  51. I see your point, fansince80. And sorry if I ruffled your feathers. America does help other countries. I just believe that it could do more than what it’s doing.

  59. Dear U2 fans,
No offense but the videoclip belongs to Kite Publishing and not U2 log. U2 log is so kind to make you all aware of the existence of this videoclip. It wasn’t meant to create major discussions. It was meant for all U2 fans to share a historical moment during the Elevation Tour and as addition to the Elevate Me Here book.

    With U2 love
