I’ve never really spent much time listening to pre-War U2… but wow! I can totally understand why people were so excited about them, even when they were still so green. Also, nice to see Edge with hair. 🙂

oh my God…
oh my God…
Anyone notice that the studio version of the song was being played over the live footage? What happened to the live audio track? Great footage though!

Yes, the studio track was dubbed over the performance. This video was used for promotional purposes. They (the producers)did the same thing for 11 O’Clock Tick Tock. I suppose this was the easiest and cheapest way to make a video. U2 used a lot of live video in the early 80’s to promote their work. I believe “I Will Follow,” as featured in the best of… video collection was their first professional video. But I don’t remember seeing it on MTV at the time. In America, I know they used a performance video from Reseda, CA to promote Boy. The video was “I Will Follow.” That got a lot of MTV play.

A Day Without Me is one of the songs that I wish they’d play now. Twilight is another. I think they rock. I think the Boy album is rich with treasures to play live forever. even shadows in tall trees, stories for boys!

I have seen the 11 O’clock Tick Tock video. It starts with the live audio but switches to the dubbed track within a few seconds. Any rare U2 footage is a good thing.

I so agree, I was dying to see a few other Boy tracks like A Day Without Me or Twilight on the last tour….
