Show, don’t tell

An “official” U2 book entitled “Show”, detailing the workings of live touring with U2 is currently in production. The writer, Diana Scrimgeour, is a friend of show director Willie Williams and video artist Cathy Owens. Amazon.de are already listing the book, with the following synopsis: “The book is designed by the band’s designers and the photographs will be hand picked from their archive put together over 20 years. There will be a commentary by Diana Scimgeour, U2’s official photographer.”

update: U2tour.de has details from the author herself. The full title will be “U2 Show”, the release date for the large format, hardback publication is set for September 16 2004.

“U2 Show” will be based on interviews with people who have worked with the band over the years, in the studio and on tour. Most photography will come from U2’s archives, a lot of which has never been published before.

  1. I think Bill’s Bible is to U2 fans what It Crawled From The South is to REM fans.

Still, another U2 book wouldn’t hurt, LOL. 😀

  3. while i rather enjoyed flanagan’s book, i don’t think i’d ever associate it w/ the word bible. too many incorrect statements that have presented as facts.

  5. I’ve kinda wondered myself about the accuracy of Flanagan’s very large piece of writing. It was funny, though.

  7. Is she U2 “official” photographer??? Maybe I’m wrong here but I thought it was Anton Corbijn. I mean you do hear his name more than any other photographer for the band.

  9. Flanagan’s book… the Bible? The stories were meandering, convuluted and Flangan is probably the most desperate writer I’ve come across. It’s as if he said “These are my stories… they’re funny right? Right? Oh please tell me they are!” on every page. He tries so hard to be funny, makes it so obvious and then fails every time. Also, the more I found out about U2, the more I disliked the members of my favorite band. Is there anything you don’t know Bono? I saw Flangan being interviewed by Conan O’Brien one night. He came across as the perfect guy to hang out with for an entire tour… pompous. That Zoo TV sure was a hell of a show though!
