In an interview with Associated Press Radio, Bono said Oscar organizers have not yet contacted the band about performing at the Academy Awards ceremony.
“It’s a nerve-racking thought,” Bono admitted. “It’d be a hell of an honor if we’re asked to perform. I hope we will be.”
Don’t worry, Bono. You will be asked.
That would be great; I look forward to every opportunity to see them.

I just hope they perform in the first hour of the show. Otherwise I usually fall asleep.

Personally I want to see Eminem rockdahouse at the Kodak Theater. LOL. Bono is so establishment these days that it will be an honor but not a mindfuck to see U2 at the Oscars. Now seeing that little bleach-headed rat bastard raise the roof over the MPA members would really be something to see. LOL

Ugh, the Academy Awards blow donkey kong. How many statues did they give to “Titanic” back in the late 90’s? Piece of Sh$te!

I’m with you Scott. The Oscars are garbage.

i think the oscars are entertaining, although they can be overrated at times. seing u2 perform will be so exciting, and if eminem performs that will go against all things oscar, which could be a good thing. but first he needs to fix his attitude. go u2.

I could stay up for U2 as late as it takes. It’s still early for the invitation, they’ll be asked. The committee may be a bunch of stuffed fucking shirts, but they know a good thing with U2. It would put the viewer ship in the stratosphere. If they snub U2, the only part I would watch would by that category, when they win of course. Then its off to better things. I’d be willing to wager on them performing there.

I don’t think the Oscars need U2’s help for viewership. The Oscars typically have on average over a Billion viewers worldwide, while U2 have the unfortunate distinction of having the two most low-rated tv programs in the history of American tv. 🙁

Two lowest rated? I remember ABC’s “A Year in POP” being a flop, what’s the other? Slane Broadcast?

I believe the XFL now has that distinction, PC. Some of its games got 1.7 ratings. I believe both U2 shows did somewhere around 2.5.
Also, you’re only considering primetime major network programs, because a 1.7 for some cable stations would be cause for dancing in the streets.

I believe A Year In Pop was the lowest-rated non-news primetime network show ever. Probably because I was in it. (g) Think it had just a touch under a million viewers. Slane did badly too, although a touch better than A Year In Pop, think it was 97 out 100 for the week it aired and had around 1.5 million viewers…where were the other 1.5 mill who bought ATYCLB??

So – put in Irish terms…the two lowest rated programs in the history of American tv! LOL. “There’s millions of them! That’s Irish for 10.” -Bono

whatever – they put the Slane show on a Friday of the biggest American holiday weekend of the year (outside Christmas and 4th of July). No one’s sitting around watching tv unless it’s football (weird American traditions). The other musical holiday specials (Faith Hill, ick) did just as poorly. Anyway, I know I enjoyed it, but I’m biased. 😉

Also, I’m exactly sure, but I think Friday is the lowest rated night of the week generally, fighting it out with Saturday.

I mean I’m NOT exactly sure. d’oh! Homer: “I hope I didn’t brain my damage.”

They were of the lowest rated TV Specials… not just programs. There is plenty of regular programming that does as poorly.

Interesting coinsidence…Steve Martin is hosting the Oscars & U2 are nominated/performing…U2 & Steve Martin also guest starred on the same episode of The Simpsons.

Rock n Roll has to be outragous right? So why would appearing on the Oscars do anything for U2’s career in music???? So they can say they rubbed shoulders with so-and-so? I hope the guys, if they perform, totally blow the roof off the house by totally revamping their song for the movie…Bono could tell Edge, “Put the 19th century through your guitar!”.

‘Appearing on the oscars won’t do anything for U2’s career in music.’ Should it? Is it possible that they want to play there because they are nominated for a beautiful song that they wrote for an interesting film, directed by a close friend that they admire immensely? Or because it is a fun night out, going to the Oscars

I hope the band do perform for a few reasons.
For starters they would be in with a major chance of winning an oscar and i think bono would die for one of those. it would be good to hear a full band performance of Hands that Built USA and also keeping the band in the ‘live’ mood will help the new CD sound more like it should do, before in gets over-produced in the studio. Rock on

How’d you do that flygirl. Thats exactly what I wanted to say. The guys will go for the good time and the award. For pitys sake can’t they win for their achievements without someone accusing them of “selling out”. They are just too brilliant to keep too ourselves. They deserve all the accolades they get for devoting their lives to the music we love. I say go for it guys have a drink for me and hob nob with the beatiful people. Just get back in that studio soon 😉

i’m glad they get to play their own song at the Oscars. Didn’t the academy used to have some whack rule about nominated artists can’t preform their own songs or somehting equally as silly?
It would be cool to see U2, Eminem and Paul Simon…all playing on the Oscars.

Thanks Flygirl, but I don’t think U2 are friends with Scorsese or anyone else at the Oscars…but it’s great business and is definitely a sell out 🙂

i don’t care what happens, as long as someone who isn’t bono does that pav bit. hey, perhaps even pav! that’d be ok. weird, but ok. another plus, is that if robin williams is there for any reason, it’ll prove once and for all that he and bono are TWO DIFFERENT PEOPLE. gasp.

Ok ladies and gents, put yourself into this situation, your band makes a song for an indendent movie, some distribution company picks it up, the movie somehow becomes huge, and your song is great, and gets nominated for an oscar, and you are invited to perform, are you honestly going to say that you arent going because you dont want to sell out? p.s. this it to the people who think that U2 goingto the oscars is “selling out”.

Ah right, Karaoke, I forgot. U2 doesn’t have any friends outside the outrageous Rock & Roll scene. Supermodels, artists, writers, actors, directors, not interesting people, just good for business. But never friends! That would be selling out! Right? Rrrright??? 😉

I remember bono saying he and martin go back, and probably a bit with daniel day lewis. But i agree with sue and flygirl, Its crazy to say that performing a song that they worked very hard on and obviously are proud of is called ‘selling out’. They deserve to win and i will be happy when they do. Why would anyone ever hope U2 didn’t win an award? Do you see how crazy that sounds? Congrats boys, and good luck.

All U2fans who think it’s cool that U2 have celebrity-friends can go hide in the basement.

i’m just speaking for myself but if I had a chance to go to the Oscars, I’d be there in a new york minute. Who doesn’t want to party in Hollywood. Why should our lads be any different? PS I can’t wait to see the photo of Bono holding up the Oscar and high fiving Scorsese at the Vanity Fair party. If you’re going to sell out, this is totally the way to go out. 🙂
