U2 to play Amsterdam in 2004?

A source within the Amsterdam Arena organisation says U2 have taken an option on playing one or more dates in the Arena (home of Amsterdam’s Ajax Football Club) in Summer 2004. More specific dates would be negotiated ‘soon’.

    I was very excited during the Elevation tour because U2 were gonna play Utrecht, which is my hometown.

    It then turned out that the heartshaped stage did not fit in the “Jaarbeurs” so they relocated it to “Gelrodome” in Arnhem. Which was a very, very poor venue for a U2 concert. I saw them a week or so later in Antwerp and that was waaaaaaaaay better.

  9. THIS COULD VERY WELL BE TRUE! A FRIEND OF MINE FROM DUBLIN WHO NOW LIVES IN THE STATES, HAS SEVERAL TIES TO THE BAND. ABOUT 2 WEEKS AGO I GOT A DRUNKEN VOICE MAIL FROM HIM SAYING THAT HE WAS GOING TO AMSTERDAM NEXT YEAR TO SEE U2 PLAY AND WANTED MY FIANCE’ AND I TO GO WITH HIM. HE HAS ALWAYS BEEN RELIABLE IN THE PAST WITH NEWS.

  23. Good news? Good news? Last time I heard U2 were playing the Amsterdam ArenA was when they cancelled their outdoor Elevation tour! Of course I take every gossip seriously 😉 but isn’t is a fact that U2 will tour in 2004? What is all the fuss about man!

  25. Here we go again (sighs). don’t get yourselves too excited about this. Most likely it will all be postponed, because they have trouble finishing the new cd this year, and the Amsterdam Arena is not really a good venue to see them live in. I wish they would go about it like the Stones this year: different venues, from big stadiums to small Vredenburg. Paradiso please guys!!

  27. That’s great! Finally U2 are back in Amsterdam. Let’s hope it will not be a disaster as the last time, when they had to stop the Lovetown gig, due to Bono’s voiceproblems.
    A friend of mine has special tickets for the ArenA, which means I have tickets for sure, without queing the whole night…

  31. Please say it’s not true!!! Read today that Bono has a slipped disc in his back. Had to miss a couple of major openings the last few days. With all hopes it doesn’t affect his ability to get to the studio or Amsterdam or other activities. Maybe it’s just rumor. Pray..
