Bono’s Response to Nobel Nomination

Bono is “delighted and humbled” to be nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize, a source close to U2 has told The Mirror. “Bono doesn’t see his work fighting AIDS or having Third World debt dropped as worthy of award, but he is thrilled to be put in the same group as some of the world’s most influential figures,” the source revealed.

  1. I respect Bono. I really do. He’d a great guy and does some great work, in both the music and humanitarium forums. Still, how many time can you say that you’re “delighted and humbled” before it begins to sound forced. I’m sure that he’s quite genuine, but I also think that awards are the last thing on his mind. He’ll probably shove it in the closet with the bazillion other awards.

  3. I don’t think so. Artist being notoriously insecure about their abilities I’m sure they’re thrilled even if they pretend not to be, or think it’s cool to pretend not to be.

  9. Has any other rock star been nominated for the Nobel Prize before? Any other artist (poet, painter, sculptor, whathaveya)? Does this officially make Bono a “Politician”? If he wins, will he use explitives in his acceptance speech? I think he deserves the Nobel more than “Hands” deserves the Oscar 😉

  11. It is live in most cases Dave, but it’s more a matter of New York being under a “code orange” terror alert, I would think. Can’t have 10’s of thousands of U2 fans flocking to NY – and you know they would come..

  13. FYI >>>>
    BONO + CABLE POSITIVE!

Bono is nominated in the 2nd annual Cable Positive Awards for the POP Celebrity of the Year. You can make sure his work on the MTV Diary Aiding Africa special is recognized by voting for him every day through Feb 25!

The POP Celebrity of the Year award recognizes the celebrity that has had the most impact in the fight against AIDS via cable television. And nobody needs to remind U2 fans how much Bono has done to bring the world’s attention to the AIDS crisis in Africa!

  15. Yes, Watts, as a matter of fact, another IRISH rock star, Sir Bob Geldof was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize for his BandAid/LiveAid efforts. I agree with you about the Nobel vs. the Oscar too.

  17. I think Bono totally deserves it. He is a rockstar, he’s not duty-bound to work for others, and yet he does. He’s a true inspiration. Go Bono, do yourself and Ireland proud!! *peace* ~~Kyr.

  19. most rock stars or public figures put on a t-shirt with a slogan or make some sort of half-baked reference to some cause at an awards show. Bono actually goes out there and works for a cuase he belives in. If he gets some media attention that’s great, but either way, I think he is doing it for the right reasons.

  21. True, some other musicians just jump on the band wagon and want to create changes or make waves just to get noticed. For example musicians that wear “war is not the answer” and the next day drive in a gas guzzling suv. Bono sticks with an issue and does what he can and takes care of business. It’s a fine line that he has to walk at times. When he gets these awards he is sincerly humble, but he doesn’t want to sound ingrateful. Man Bono is one of the only few people that give a damn. Humm, I only hope that what happened to MLK, John Lennon, or Ghandi doesn’t happened to Bono. To stand for justice and equality comes the price…hopefully not with Bono.

  23. i think to ask, is this not about a French honor and is it not about last year’s nobel nomination?

Are those nominations not meant to be published anyway… like you would never get the Nobel Peace Prize if you spoke a word about it and Bono might ban this site?

    NO idea, it is unclear.
