  1. I already saw this on BBC 3. It is quite interesting and they get a lot of access to places I’ve never seen before – like actually *inside* 10 Cedarwood Road (and a look at Bono’s old bedroom!), and inside the Martello Tower in Bray. They also visit Mount Temple and have photographs of the first ever U2 gig at the school. Well worth an hour of a U2 fans time.

  3. Does anyone know if we can pick up BBC3 in Ireland? I have Sky Digital, with BBC1 & 2, but no 3… 🙁

  5. BBC 3 is available via freeview. So if you have Sky Digital you should already have access to all the non-subscription channels like BBC 3 and 4 (though it may be a matter of retuning). Regardless of this, like the post says, Liquid Assets is being show on BBC 1 on Friday.

  7. Trampoline…BBC3 used to be called BBC Choice. You should have it with you Sky package. But as Tacoma says you may as well watch it on BBC1.

  9. Liquid, LIQUID!! How dare Bono preach about Africa where there is so little water and now he’s going to show off about how much he’s got. Stick to the music….

  13. Hey look at Mr. Good Guy living like a king. What a saint he is? Always telling Americans they should pay their hard earned money to do this to do that. Well Bono you should give your millions away to charity like Harry Chapin. At least he put his money where his mouth is. You don’t need all that money to live but I don’t see you giving significant amount away for good purposes. He even charges the highest ticket prices in the biz all to make money. Even though I love his music, he sickens me with his hypocrisy. This guy is no saint. His so called “causes” only promote U2, which was needed after the bomb of Pop. Why he gets so much praise for traveling around the world and having lunch in fancy restaurants with important people is absurd. I wish I could do it and I’ll do it for free. He is not making any personal sacrifices, like others do, he only gets good publicity. Let’s stop praising Bono for the wrong reasons. I am the first to agree he is the best as far as music goes but that’s it.

  15. You have GOT to be kidding!! I would bet that if you weighed B’s free time versus…ANYONE, he would win as far as the amount of tme helping others. Have you seen his check book and how much he actually gives of his own? Neither have I, so stop your f’n guessing. I will GUARANTEE the percentage of his income that goes to others compared to you miss Kelly is far greater. Harry Chapin? now there is a guy that deserves the nobel peace prize…he never made millions so he certainly never gave it away!
Most importantly, aside form the money, not a saint? Come on, find me another human being ( not sure if you are one, but will give you the benefit of the doubt ), that feels Bono is not a charitable person. So charitable, that most consider him a saint.

  17. I saw this on BBC3 last week. Although I agree with Tacoma that there were a couple of items of interest, on the whole this programme is of no merit whatsoever. The focus is on Bono, even though the programme continually acknowledges that all the income to which it refers is split 5 ways. Allied to an extremely irritating female presenter and a focus on how Bono made his money (yes we know the JT sold by the bucket load)rather than how he has spent it (not that I feel the need to know that either) made this, for me, an entirely unsatisfying watch.

  19. Kelly – How do you know Bono doesn’t make ANY personal sacrifices? You don’t think being away from ones wife and children to go to Africa to promote the AIDS-debt issue, to tour across the mid-America to bring AIDS awareness to others; those aren’t sacrifices? Oh and starting an outfit called DATA for African relief?? No sacrifices? The other thing to remember is this: Bono is a global celebrity, like it or not. He is going to use his celebrity to bring awareness to issues so that not only does he turn on some of his fans, he also gets access to people and rooms that a lot of other people could only wet dream about. The issue here is not asking people to just give away money to various organizations, the point is about inequity. Why does the West have the best AIDS drugs and why can’t Africans get these drugs? Why does the West continue to collect debt from the poorest countries? Why do nearly all of us sit around doing nothing to help others A LOT less fortunate? That’s the real point here – inequity. He’s trying to actually fix these problems and not just patch them up by throwing money at them, only to have it break down again another day. Bono is ONE MAN who can get the points across to MANY people by nature of his job. And having many people on your side is much better than fighting the battle alone… jc

  21. He could give money??? To who??? It’s the policy of debt he’s trying to change, throwing money at Africa won’t solve anything if they just give it back to America… Pop did not bomb by any standards other than U2 standards… Also, maybe he IS giving shitloads of money to Africa or to some other nobel cause, it’s none of our business who… He is giving TONS of time if nothing else!!! Who else has even brought up the topic in media??? No one, certainly not the readers of U2 log, although thanks to Bono educating me, I have done stuff of my own through my band… Kelly, I try to respect everyone’s opinion, and I certainly don’t want to offend you, but cripes you are off base completely… If you feel I am wrong, please show me why, I’m just not seeing it…

  23. 1. I remember an NME interview mentioning that Bono has a habit of giving away $200 to New York’s street beggars, and he never tells anyone about it even if people still have a way of finding out. I would not be surprised if his bigger charity contributions are similarly hush-hush. 2. Africa’s problems will not be solved by the contributions from somebody’s private purse, but by the actions from the governments. 3. And sorry, but the idea that Bono’s causes is just a promotion for U2 is just ridiculous; if he only needed it to raise their profile after POP disasters, why then is he still doing it after ATYCLB and Elevation tour brought U2 back on top? Plus it actually takes away from the band as he could have spent all that time working at the studio.

  25. Boy, did you pick the wrong forum to dis Bono. Do you get it now? You are entitled to think what you do, but if you don’t have the least bit of facts you had best keep these types of expressions to yourself. Don’t even try looking. You won’t find anything to back up your preconceived allegations because they don’t exist. Try reading a bit more and you won’t be so inclined to spout off on a subject you obiviously don’t know anything about.

  27. I agree completely with Kelly K. on her point about Bono’s hypocrisy. It’s there and any intellectually honest person would agree with Kelly about Bono and many OTHER rich people. You don’t think they got rich giving money away, right…well they don’t get rich NOT chatting with people they have access to. For Bono to through his self-righteous, pretentious ego around is enough to sicken anyone…including fans of his music. I am not his constituency and never will be!

  29. And another thing…if Bono was half the man he wants to be he’d recognize all those people he shares cocktails and club memberships with for what they are…but wait…that’s exactly what he WANTS to be…so, why should he sing anymore?

  31. Wow Bono actually gives $200 to street bums in New York? You have totally changed my mind this guy is really generous. Now he will only be able to buy 3 more mansions
    , a few more Mercedes,
    and etc…

Your arguments are so ridculously weak I am laughing at how pathetic you all sound. Someone writes
how do I know what Bono does with his money? So I am supposed to assume he is giving most of his riches to people who could really use it just because I have not heard that he does not? Using that logic then you should assume I give 90% of my money away. Oh but I am not Bono, so you won’t believe it of course.

And Sue, you think I don’t know what I am talking about? Well, show me proof that Bono gives at least 30% of his income away to charity. YOU CAN’T BECAUSE HE DOES NOT. If you don’t think all his causes
are not controlled by his management and at least in some respect are done for the band’s publicity than you are just naive.

  33. The only thing I’m cringing at is the fact that both of you are so stuck on yourselves you refuse to see that you are what you say you hate… You are judgemental and idiotic if you think that just because somebody is rich that they are uppity and not giving… Fuck anyone who thinks anyone with money should throw money at the poor to prove what a great person they are… The poor need to be empowered to make it themselves in the world, charity money won’t last forever… If either of you had a fucking clue what Bono was doing you might not be so defensive, but since we are obviously not playing by the rules anymore (vonb, don’t you think their comments deserve banishment???), I just want to tell you that the two of you sound like a couple of little kids who didn’t get their way at a long past U2 concert and continue to take it out on Bono… Read mattew 6:5, understand that Bono is an important person in the world and chooses to use his time, effort, and money to try to help people, and grow the hell up!!! And if you don’t like U2 so much, GO AWAY, stay away from fan sites!!! You obviously ignore the facts and make asses out of yourselves in doing so, do it somewhere else, we, the fans of U2, and Bono, and of decent people won’t have to deal with you!!!

  35. Sorry vonb, but I’m not going to take shit off another guest in your house if I am a guest as well… They have no right to berate me for politely pointing out the facts… I’ve been banned for less than they said to me, so I understand if you cut me out… Maybe we should all look up the word hypocrite and really read what we post from now on!!! I’ll do it if they will!!!

  37. I was going to get into some big, long production about how Kelly missed the point again – that it’s NOT about GIVING money away to simply band aid the world’s ills, that it’s about inequity and changing people’s minds and ACTUALLY FIXING THE PROBLEM. That’s what Bono’s on about *sigh*

  39. You’re right Ryan, but can’t we all just get along? I feel sorry for people who feel that you have to be poor to be humble. I want to challenge those who judge to tell us a better way to do things since they have all the answers. Does Bono have to be poor for him to be generous and humble?
Don’t judge lest ye be judged. . .
And I too wish we could watch that here in the U.S. Does Direct TV have BBC3?

  41. Hi,
Frustratingly I turned on liquid assets:bonos millions, 5 minutes before it ended!! I was very annoyed. Will this documentary be repeated? If it is does anyone have any dates & times, so I can make sure I get the whole show this time.

  43. You people are like sheep. Well, I am not
jeoleous of Bono being rich. In fact, I am very much responsible for his riches since I have been a fan for over 20 years and I am the first person to say he deserves his riches for the great music he has created. However, this is different from his constant bashing of the USA. Everytime I see or read an interview with him he is bashing the US on not doing enough for this cause and that cause. Now you all constantly are saying he is saying it is not about money. What articles and interviews have you been watching? It is all about money! Take Live Aid for instance, here the world was asked to donate money but the money did nothing to solve the problem. Throwing money at problems does not always solve them. i would also like to see a single article or interview where Bono bashes a European country for not giving aid.

My point is not that Bono is a bad guy or selfish person. I agree with you that he is trying to do good however you need to put him in perspective. You are all idolizing him and making him something that he is not. In fact, he has said what he has done does not deserve all the praise it is simply because he is Bono he gets it. Now, I would respect Bono more if he
continued what he does but did not go to receive every award
and party in his honor. Then he would show that he is not doing it for himself.

  45. I don’t think not showing up would make him show anything other than he is ungrateful… You and I just disagree, but next time, the more you insult people instead of presenting an intelligent argument, which you still haven’t done (no one was idolizing anything, just giving examples) the more you come off as a self righteous ass, and that isn’t cool at all…

  47. We don’t idolize Bono, he won’t let us. My friend met Bono and when he shook his hand Bono lowered his head which shows humility and graciousness. Bono loves America, it’s just our government that he has problems with. I love my country and I have problems with our government. Who doesn’t have some problem with our government? Bono has done more good in his life than a majority of our leaders. The U.S. is the greatest country in the world and Bono knows this and he’s trying to get us to get off our asses and do something about the stuff that is going on. I have no hard feelings for anyone on this board, but I would appreciate more decorum on all parts. We aren’t hear to call names. We are here to discuss Bono and his exploits. I appreciate all U2 fans and I know that true U2 fans will agree with me when I say U2 actually means something to this world. “These are the hands that built America.”

  49. I’m sorry to have to say this, but Kelly Kinsel: you are one of the shortsightest people I’ve ever seen posting on this weblog.
I’m not gonna repeat all the arguments (pro nor con) but the arguments you make are absolutely irrelevant to the charity work of Mr. B.

  51. You think I am short sighted? Ha ha ha ha ha ha!! You don’t even have enough brains to argue your point. How about disputing the facts that I put up as my argument? But you can’t dispute the facts because they are true and they don’t support your view. So you just call me shortsighted.
JR you are not even in my league. Please show me the atricle where Mr. Bono donates his millions to a cause. Show me the article where he bashes Ireland or another European country for not sending aid. YOU CAN’T
BECAUSE HE DOES NOT! Mr. Good guy is a total capitalist making his millions and buying a few multi-million dollar apartments in New York
at the same time telling US tax payers like myself to shell out money for his causes. If he is such a good guy, why does not he use those millions to help the homeless in New York?
I am sure the millions he puts into keeping those apartments would do a lot of good for some people in need. If I was Bono and had millions of dollars to burn I could think of a lot of better ways to use it to make the world a better place than to spend it on apartments.

  53. Kelly, you do have a point. Bono is a bit of a hypocrite. For a guy who claims to want to save the world he definitely does not do enough compared to others.
I stopped respecting him after I started listening to bootlegs and noticed that in almost every concert everything he says is scripted. He says the same thing in every show. I thought that he was a geniune person and not scripted but I was wrong.

  55. HH, are you asking Bono to be an original every night on tour. You try it. Of course it’s scripted. It’s a two hour professional rock show. Every little detail is worked out. Get over it.
