The National Gallery of Ireland has confirmed that a portrait of Bono will soon grace its walls. Irish Life and Permanent has commissioned Irish artist Louis Le Brocquy to paint a portrait of the U2 frontman for a series of portraits the company sponsors at the gallery.

Bono’s portrait will hang next to portraits of other famous Irish citizens, including former President Mary McAleese and TV presenter Gay Byrne.

  1. it will be interesting to see how the painter chooses to portray Bono. I’m not familiar with this guy’s work, but I hope he goes for something more than just the typical shoulders-up shot. hmm. it will be interesting indeed… (ps, the national gallery in Ireland is excellent. The Joyce section in particular is worth the trip.)
