The Clash: “Truly shamanistic”

“The Clash are the shit.” The Edge — guitarist of a “supersonic folk” band, sells the crowd some “emotional hype and blarney”, eloquently inducting The Clash (“I don’t think that the rest of you know just how great they really were.” ) into the Rock and Roll Hall of fame. Watch it all at U2star.com’s video of the week page. The Edge describes The Clash’s ’77 gig in Dublin, a lifechanging experience for U2 who were confronted with “something distant, but now attainable”.

  1. Are you sure the Virgin Prunes supported at the Clash’s Oct. ’77 gigs at Trinity College Dublin (the Clash played 2 sets that night)? I think that the Prunes supported the second time the Clash played in Dublin – which was either in ’78 or ’79.

  3. Ok, I stand corrected. Just asked Gavin and the answer is “’78 and we was great”

  5. I met Tom Morello of Audioslave last week and he said doing this was great… I told him that we thought he and The Edge were the shit, and he seemed to get a kick out of that!!! Just a tidbit I thought some of you would enjoy (since I don’t have Gavin’s #, or anything remotely that cool):)!!!
