Bono’s Editorial

“We cannot allow this war, the war on Aids, to go unfinanced and leaderless, and the world’s poor to be left out again…”
–Bono

The Daily Telegraph has published an impassioned editorial penned by Bono that addresses the need for Britain and the rest of the G8 countries to commit resources to fight AIDS.

His editorial comes just before the G8 summit in Evian, France, where Bono is hoping UK Prime Minister Tony Blair can persuade the world leaders in attendance to treat the AIDS epidemic in Africa as a emergency and to take action.

Bags on Display

Ali Hewson has turned Bono and her children into a handbag. As a fundraiser for Down’s Syndrome Ireland, Ali allowed her personalized Anya Hindmarch bag, featuring a photo of her children, to be displayed in downtown Dublin.

This week shoppers on Grafton Street could glimpse at Ali’s bag and other celebrity photo handbags in the shop windows. For each celebrity handbag that was displayed, Down’s Syndrome Ireland received a Euro 500 donation.

U2 Reader for U2 Readers

New on bookstands June 7 is The U2 Reader: A Quarter Century of Commentary, Criticism and Reviews by Hank Bordowitz, published by Hal Leonard Books.

According to the author’s web site, the book is “the most comprehensive, one-stop source for articles and reviews on the world’s most popular rock band.”

A review published in the June issue of Library Journal Reviews describes Bordowitz’s book as a thematic study of the band that doesn’t deliver.

“Fans will get frustrated by the lack of scintillating material (not to mention pictures), and students looking to write a term paper won’t get a comprehensive overview,” writes reviewer Heather McCormack.

The book is available to order at Amazon.com.

Dubya’s Niece Dying to Meet Bono

Today’s Mirror reports that President Bush’s niece Lauren Bush is looking forward to meeting Bono next month.

“I’m definitely going to Ireland for the opening of the Special Olympics,” Bush said. “Bono is playing, and it’s going to be great — really fantastic.”

Secret Service agents will accompany the president’s niece, who has a bustling modeling career, when she visits Dublin.

“Le foto di Bono al Baglioni Hotel”

Bono took some time meeting fans outside the Baglioni Hotel in Bologna and you can read all about it at U2place.com, if you read Italian. At one point Bono told the fans: “Gonna go to bed, ’cause I’m so tired I’m gonna go to bed…” We sympathise.

There are a number of very large pictures for anyone to enjoy.
