I highly doubt this is going to be the final product. Shaughn McGrath and Steve Averill were saying at the “Evening with Four5One” (at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame) that were goign to meet with U2 later on this week to talk about possible imagery to use for the new album. So I doubt it’s finished.
Another thing they said was that they’re always working on the design of the album right up until it’s due.

Additionally, in the former, the date immediately follows the colon; in the latter, the date follows a hyphen. Number 2: the printing looks sketchy like something done on a computer. number 3: from the photo, you can’t really tell the size. It could just be an 8 x 11 piece of paper printed off the computer where someone had some fun with photoshop.

Why not? Have fun with it! It’s Summer time. No action happening in the U2 world. Solar = sun = light = day = “Beautiful Day” – U2 spent the 90s more concerned with the moon / the night / darkness. Solar = sun = Bono can play on the word with “Son” of God. The Old Testament story of Joshua (“The Joshua Tree”) halting the sun. In the New Testament the “Transfiguration” = his face shone like sun. Book of Revelations? Solar energy = covert messages against “oil” it’s role in wars (Iraq) and wealth & power (U.S. / Europe versus the Third World). The Log just reported that the “logistics Co.” has been booked for May. Now why would they wait until March to release the album and then tour before the material has circulated long enough for people to know it. So, let’s hope all this is just for fun, and just let it increase the craving for new material. Whenever it may come out and whatever it may be!!

Ah. The Expect Nothing postcards. Those featured images of the band and design work done by the Four5One guys. And it was obvious that they were professionally done, not like this error riddled poster. “Solar” may be a working title but I’m doubting this poster is anything more than a clever fake…

I seriously doubt this is real, anyone could have dreamed this up… I do like it as an album name, not real big on the picture (even though there are literally hundreds if not thousands of pictures taken to promote an album) so I’m not getting my panties in a bunch over it… However, this to me is the very baby beginning of the next U2 album and “phase” if you like, the elevation U2 is fading away and we now are at the very beginning of a new U2… Kinda like the the summer after a Star Wars movie comes out, the next movie is in the baby stages, and you hear rumors that turn out not to be true and some that do… Anyway, this is sort of the fun part!!!

oh, i just thought o fsomething… since we’re in that speculating too far in advance/rumours too good to be true mode. if the folllowing tour is based on the “solar” theme, how about an in-the-round version of a u2 concert stage. with maybe two or four ramps extending from a circular disc-type stage. nice, huh?

A simple search on nasa.org and you can find similar pictures of the sun as on the promo, like http://science.msfc.nasa.gov/ssl/pad/solar/images/yohkoh_920508.jpg – take a picture and photoshop for an hour.. see what you can come up with.

A U2 fan who wishes to remain anonymous spent time with Bono recently in Dublin after visiting the Hanover studios. The fan tells @U2 that, according to Bono, the new album should be out around January, 2004, with a tour to follow in the summer. Why not? Have fun with it! It’s Summer time. No action happening in the U2 world. Solar = sun = light = day = “Beautiful Day” – U2 spent the 90s more concerned with the moon / the night / darkness. Solar = sun = Bono can play on the word with “Son” of God. The Old Testament story of Joshua (“The Joshua Tree”) halting the sun. In the New Testament the “Transfiguration” = his face shone like sun. Book of Revelations? Solar energy = covert messages against “oil” it’s role in wars (Iraq) and wealth & power (U.S. / Europe versus the Third World). Solar = solar system = another word for universe = universal / humanity / one > DATA. Songs for the Tour: Staring At The Sun & Gone “I’ll be up with the sun / I’m not coming down.” I like the “title” Solar = heat / brightness and continuing theme of Beautiful Day and joy. At the other end, a dark, rocking, Exit-like track called “Eclipse.” I think one of the leftover ATYCLB tracks was titled as “The Sun, The Moon, And The Stars.” I’d like to see it as AB (including The Edge’s guitar solos from the ZOOTV Tour – Mysterious Ways, Bullet, Love Is Blindness, etc.) meets Boy (Out Of Control, Tick Tock, Electric Co., etc.). “If” ATYCLB was “damage control” and bringing back the “older 80s fans” then let Solar be a full throttle assault on the “youngsters” (and everyone else too!) It’s an Interscope mark on the poster, so it would be a US poster and they aren’t known for being concerned with Europe dates…and wouldn’t present it as such anyway. It would be “US” and “Rest of the World” not “US” and “Europe and the rest of the world”.

it’s a fake — and not a very good one. the composition/production errors on it alone should tell you that.
to satisfy all the sceptics, i contacted interscope for an official comment, and the reply I received was “it is definitely not for real.”

Ah. The Expect Nothing postcards. Those featured images of the band and design work done by the Four5One guys. And it was obvious that they were professionally done, not like this error riddled poster. “Solar” may be a working title but I’m doubting this poster is anything more than a clever fake…

I seriously doubt this is real, anyone could have dreamed this up… I do like it as an album name, not real big on the picture (even though there are literally hundreds if not thousands of pictures taken to promote an album) so I’m not getting my panties in a bunch over it… However, this to me is the very baby beginning of the next U2 album and “phase” if you like, the elevation U2 is fading away and we now are at the very beginning of a new U2… Kinda like the the summer after a Star Wars movie comes out, the next movie is in the baby stages, and you hear rumors that turn out not to be true and some that do… Anyway, this is sort of the fun part!!!

oh, i just thought o fsomething… since we’re in that speculating too far in advance/rumours too good to be true mode. if the folllowing tour is based on the “solar” theme, how about an in-the-round version of a u2 concert stage. with maybe two or four ramps extending from a circular disc-type stage. nice, huh?

Hm.. I found the leaked info from Columbia pretty plausible, but now Interference gets the further scoop, I can’t help but be doubting it all all of a sudden. A simple search on nasa.org and you can find similar pictures of the sun as on the promo, like http://science.msfc.nasa.gov/ssl/pad/solar/images/yohkoh_920508.jpg – take a picture and photoshop for an hour.. see what you can come up with.
Adding that U2 have a habit of putting their faces on any possible gizmo they can get their faces on, and this promo item does not, I am putting my money on a nice effort by Elvis to cause a buzz. The Interscope logo? Copy/Pasta. Nice work though, Joel, but fool me once…. 🙂

A U2 fan who wishes to remain anonymous spent time with Bono recently in Dublin after visiting the Hanover studios. The fan tells @U2 that, according to Bono, the new album should be out around January, 2004, with a tour to follow in the summer. Bono also mentioned one song by name, “All Because of You”, which he said is finished and will be on the album. As for the album, Bono said it will be full of guitars “like The Who.”
