“They respect Bono”

Robbie Williams experiences the difference (real audio) in his and Bono’s female fans in Amsterdam:

“I thought I’m gonna pick one tonight that’s good looking, because quite frankly a lot of them have been like… mercy kisses. Is that bad? It’s the truth. She gets up on stage… I’ve seen Bono do it, so I’m thinking I’m going to have a roll around like Bono does. And with Bono they are like very respectful and they just lie next to him and listen to him, but with me… “

Oprah’s All-Time Favorite

On “The Oprah Winfrey Show” yesterday, Oprah reviewed past show highlights and admitted that her interview with Bono last fall was one of her all-time favorite interviews. She also confessed that she treasures his gift of the Bulgari sunglasses.

“He’s so…he is the real deal. He’s just really so cool. And I still have the glasses. Of course, I do. I never take them anywhere. I have them right in a special place on my shelf.”

U2 to Appear on New TV Chat Show?

U2 are rumored to be one of the first guests on Eamon Dunphy’s new television chat show for TV3. “The Dunphy Show” premieres on the independent Irish television channel (for which Paul McGuinness is a member of the board of directors) on September 5 at 9 p.m.

Eamon Dunphy is an Irish writer and broadcaster well known by U2 fans for the biography he wrote on the band, Unforgettable Fire: The Story of U2.

Cutting Edge

Holosonic Research Labs, a Boston area audio technology company, is working with U2 to design a unique audio spotlight system for the band’s next tour. Audio spotlight is a technology that allows sound to be directed at or projected against a particular location. Specifically, Holosonics is working to create a system in which the sound generated from Edge’s guitar can be “flown over” to swoop an audience.

In an interview with the Hollywood Reporter, F. Joseph Pompei, the founder of Holosonics, discussed the project with U2: “U2 kept coming by the lab [see pic], and eventually we went out to L.A. and took measurements to see what it would take to get the Edge’s guitar sound to fly around. We’re working on that design now.”

Holosonics is involved with Media Lab Europe, and Edge’s interest in the company’s audio spotlight technology may explain why he recently joined Media Lab’s board of directors.

Radio Ga-Ga

Lost Highway Records has announced that Bono will be a host on a new American syndicated radio show titled “The Lost Highway Radio Show.” The show, which is scheduled to premiere in late August and air quarterly, will feature a concert of a particular artist. The debut show will be a 90-minute concert from Lucinda Williams, recorded in New York in May 2003.
