U2 are on yet another one of those all-time best-of lists. This one, bizarrely enough, was engineered by Zagat, the organization best known for their restaurant and nightlife guides. U2 placed twice on the list, at #4 for The Joshua Tree and #10 for Achtung Baby (always the bridesmaid, never the bride). Bruce Springsteen’s Born To Run topped the list, subtly implying that the entire sample of votes was taken from 40-year-old men who live in New Jersey. (We’ve got nothing but love for the Bruce, really.)

I have to disagree, ‘Abbey Road’ is better than ‘Born to Run’. ‘Revolver’ is better than ‘Sgt. Pepper’s’. I know it’s all subjective though. I also think (gasp!) ‘AB’ is better than ‘JT’.

so, 10,000 random people get to decide what the definite albums are? this is me scoffing: scoff. call me a cynic, but I doubt springsteen would have cracked the top ten if this survey had been done 5 years ago. that said, bruuuuce!! shea stadium, closing night, here I come!!! (these people do get some cred for picking “darkness on the edge of town” my personal fave bruce record, instead of the easy blockbuster “born in the usa.”

I still haven’t recovered since the time the Michelin Guide rated The Dream Academy’s first album higher than Yes’s “Tales From Topographic Oceans.”

yet another deranged list. i wonder what types of these lists will be generated 800,000 years from now. i bet u2 will still be on it. and i bet ‘joshua’ will still inexplicably beat out ‘ab.’

i agree with sixtoe, i’m still trying to recover from the White House’s recent survey that put “rock me (like a hurricane” above “kick out the jams” as the all time best song to remove an evil dictator. who will come up with the next insane list?
