Eine kleine Nightmare

U2web.org, far away from the claws of the RIAA, are offering the In A Little While Nightmare On Wax Remix from a Cafe del Mar compilation for download. Enjoy it while it lasts.

Several sites offering U2 bootlegs have (been) shut down over the last couple of weeks, including the popular and might we say essential U2bloodredsky.com.

The upcoming updated edition of the highly regarded book “U2 Live – A concert documentary” could not have been written without mp3 resources in general, and U2bloodredsky.com in particular. The current author of the book fears further updates will suffer greatly if access to source material is made more difficult.

U2 have stated in the past that concert bootlegging is OK with them as long as it’s not for commercial purposes. Now fans are wondering whether sharing their material electronically will get them sued. Do U2 know the RIAA are going after their fans?

  1. The RIAA are scum of the worst kind. I hope they rot in hell. Imagine sueing 12 year old girls, 70 year old men and robbing students of their life savings.

  3. I doubt it’s coming from U2’s side. most likely they don’t even know about it. it looks like the mp3 revolution is nearing its end. I have mixed feelings about it, because I know the music business is in crisis and they have to take desperate measures. but maybe in decades of gouging the fans, they dug their own grave? and all this on top of ticketmaster’s announcement they will start auctioning off tickets. U2 will have to comment on this publically once they start the promotional rounds for the new album. it will be interesting to hear what they say… and if they do anything at all.

  5. maybe the crisis is because there isn’t anything good to buy musically. oh except for a u2 album every for or so years

  7. I got an OK-sign from U2-security as I was seen taping an Elevation show for trading. I don’t think they would do that without permission of the band to let fans do this. No-one’s making money out of this (it just costs a lot) so why not let it….

  9. I don’t understand how u2bloodredsky could be shut down. The RIAA is going after mp3s from albums. This is all live material! We’re not ‘stealing’ from the band through this site because this stuff isn’t made public in the first place. Now I could buy it if you could purchase the shows from the store but that isn’t the case.

  11. I’ve been collection U2 bootlegs for years now.
During the Elevation tour,I had problems with the Belgium gouverment because my trading of LIVE music.
Bootlegs are illegal. (Point, no discussion is possible here.)
They violate the copyright of the artist. And that’s it.
Even if you don’t pay an euro for it, you’re stealing, that’s what the Belgium law says.

I contacted Cecilia and explained her my problems and asked here for help.
Or if she could forward my problems to the band, this was her answer:
    Really not my department.

Unfortunatly this is a Belgian Customs issue. sorry!
(yes, i still have this email!)

    My next email:
And an e-mail address or a contact address of the principal management of U2? Can I have that?

    Her answer:
We all have individual e-mails. To be honest all the Management staff are out on the road with the band. There is nothing we can do.

I guess what U2 says, and what U2 does are two complete different things.
