  1. It must be a monster, because if Edge is mad enough to be on the verge of puking, Larry must be in an iron lung…as for Adam, whatever happened to Adam? I’m beginning to think the last photo I saw of him was from his confirmation. Bon ought to think twice about expressing his audience in demographic marketing jargon — he just alienated most teenagers, people in their thirties, and people his own age and beyond! He’s right about that “phoning Dad” thing — I still do that, and mine’s been dead for 13 years.

  3. Well, he’s alienated me with all this guitar baloney.

I’m sure in the end it’ll sound just like a U2 album.

  5. Bono is a master of the hype. He’s always been really good at hyping up a U2 record, I must admit. I am anxious to hear what the fuss is all about, now.

  7. ho hum, just another day in the rumour mill. My guess is that it wont be out before Easter2004

  9. do you think the rumored bruce/bono duet will be on the album? I doubt it – but with all this talk about it being a real rock record, well, one way to get some rock cred is to have the boss show up. they are my two favorite singers but I’m somehow nervous about hearing them sing together – bono doesn’t sing with the roar he did in the 80s, and bruce might blow him out of the water. but bruce is a very versatile singer, so he might adapt to bono’s style.

  13. And having Springsteen on an album instantly conjures a rock vibe? What is the U2 fandomhood coming to.

uh, yes. why is that surprising?

  17. It is nice to see that The Edge has not lost sight of what is important. Bono, it must get a bit confusing trying to deal with politicians,(assuming the politicians are as misleading there as they are here). Larry, it seems Bono needs a push in the right direction,(ha ha). Adam, keep it natural amongst all that chaos in the diversions of life. Please help us keep it real U2. Thanks for listening to all us fans, begging for another chance at more U2 music.

  19. Give the boys a break … they’ve been at this for over 20 years and they know what’s important — releasing a record that they’re happy with. I’m just as frustrated as y’all with the “this will be a guitar-driven record” talk (same thing last 3 records to only a slight truth) … I kinda hope the take a Beatles approach — stop touring and just put out a record every 2 years. Seems like the touring really puts Bono in a mindset that he needs to escape the music for extended periods. Whenever they put out their next record, I’ll be happy.

  21. I think whatever they release it will be awesome .I think the boys went off the track a little with ‘Pop’ but with ‘ATYCLB’ as Bono said reclaimed the title of best band on the planet .
If this is nearly as good than it will be one hell of an album.

As for touring . there is nothing better than hearing anyone live as opposed to a CD.
Most of the songs by U2 are written to be played live and that is how it should be .
Everyone is entitled to there opinion though .

  23. the problem with U2 is always the same: they probably record a great guitar driven album, but then Eno and Lanois show up and start mixing the plain rock with all kinds of boring and unneeded samples etc.
That’s why U2 is such a great live act. There they are the plain rockband and that’s what really should have been recorded.

  25. I don’t think the Springsteen song will be on the next U2 album. I am sure ‘Break of dawn’ is more like a rushed job done in Bruce’s basement on a rainy night Bono was over at his place than a well prepared and professionaly recorded song. Hit potential: 0.00 Add to this, it’s probably thematically bound to 9/11 (and the morning after).

  27. I don’t think the springsteen song is going to be on the album either, since duets aren’t really U2’s style, but I also doubt it’s a rushed job – if you know anything about springsteen, it’s that he’s an famous perfectionist and very protective of what he releases. so I have high hopes that it’ll be a keeper.

uh, yes. why is that surprising?–

So your saying in order for U2 to rock they need the boss? Rock cred? Have U2 not enough on their own already than to have to rely on someone else to make a rock record? please.

  31. no, I’m not saying U2 needs Springsteen for any reason. But it would make sense, given all this talk (and of course at this point it’s still just talk) of this being a real rock record. U2 hasn’t made one of those since achtung baby.

  33. But when will be able to hear this record?
Hope it lives up to the bono-hype, been wanting to hear edge really let loose on an album for a long time, like he can for live performances.
what will it be called though?
    dragon?
    the unbelievable anger?
    dodgey?
