“Bono off hook over TV swearing” report Reuters UK and the BBC. America’s Federal Communications Commission has decided that U2 singer Bono’s did not violate the nation’s broadcast indecency rules when he said “this is really, really fucking brilliant” at this year’s broadcast of the Golden Globe Awards.
The bureau ruled that Bono’s indiscretion was so “fleeting and isolated” that it did not run afoul of the rules.
Meanwhile, in the 21st century…
LMAO! They fact that they had to rule on this is so ridiculous!

I remember hearing somewhere that in the early 90s, when awards shows started being on a 10-sec delay, they called it “the Bono delay” because he always said fuck. looks like the golden globes forgot about that.

to call America a police state is an insult to those people who actually live in a police state

The Drudge Report now has a link to this Reuters story. Check out this quote “The word ‘f—ing’ my be crude and offensive, but, in the context presented here, did not describe sexual or excretory organs or activities,” the bureau wrote. “Rather, the performer used the word ‘f—ing’ as an adjective or expletive to emphasize an exclamation. ”
Does that mean it is now OK to use the f-word on TV as long as it’s used as an adjective not describing sex or, uh, excretion?
Funny stuff! Bono’s pushing the envelope again!

america isn’t a police state. it’s just that we have slightly higher moral standards than other even filthier societies (they do exist, believe it or not). But it’s still a funny situation. What were they going to do to him for saying that, anyway?

Ignoring the question of whether our standards are morally superior to others’, I think I should note that every culture has its idiosyncracies. Those that are not immoral should not be impugned so harshly. It’s wrong to impugn an Asian or an African country because of its customs. Why is it okay to impugn the U.S. — invoking the idea of a “police state” — for our customs? It seems f’ing inconsistent.

That’s right, say it like ya mean it. Don’t take any guff from those swine Bono. Yeah it’s ok, the right words don’t always come out when the mind feels preoccupied with so much else. Take that from a guy who was given a once in a lifetime offer, only to break down and return to his own tendancies,… yeah, that’s one way of looking back at it.
Say what ya feel,

Yes, I know that daring to suggest Bono is anything less than perfect is a sin, but come now. If you entered a room with children, would you begin using profanity? I hope not. People were watching a channel that is not supposed to have the F word being used. They have a right to expect that they’ll get through the show without hearing words they may find objectionable. Bono should have and could have used better judgement.
