Wyclef’s Class reunion

Wyclef Jean’s official site has the song ‘Class Reunion’ up (choose ‘Feel’ in the menu). The song features The Edge and someone called Monica. (via Umaar)

  1. Monica’s fairly famous…a few big hits under her belt. I’m So Gone is the current one, and something most would probably recognize, that infectious “The Boy is Mine” she did with Brandy… I find it really funny that you wrote “someone called Monica.”

  7. I think she is a pretty American commodity, VonB. Nothing to write home about, but she’s better than most similar singers in her weight class.

    As for the track… uh, why’s the guitar buried so low in the mix? ‘Clef could’ve had anybody playing if that’s all he planned to do with it…

  15. No, after a few listens ive come to the conclusion that it is way too low in the mix. At times you can barely hear it. Whoever mixed this thing did it entirely backwards. You can barely call that “featuring” the edge, its way more like…contributing musician. From what I can hear, it sounds very early U2 tone. anyway, the vocals are way too high…..Clive Davis doesn’t know what he’s doing. Sure, he’s a label president, but he ain’t no producer.

  19. While I agree that what I can hear sounds very 80’s classic Edge tone…basic amp and korg sdd 3000 delay, maybe some paremetric EQ…it sounds too low in the mix. I’m not butting heads, I just can’t hear it. I also have a studio and maybe Ive got some upper high frequency hearing loss because I was cranking the treble trying to hear his playing. Ah well. It’s not U2, so I don’t care. 🙂

I heard “The Boy Is Mine” so much I thought I was going to shoot myself or take hostages… I’ve never forgiven Monica for that, like I never forgave Puff Daddy for the whole year of 1997 (fish eye lens, throwing money at the camera, rapping with all the energy of a dead snail, never having any original music, all around obnoxious omnipresence)… But now that The Edge has a song with her, i can let some of that go… Puffy is still in the shit house with me though…

If monica wasnt on the track, id buy it. the boy is mine did more to reiterize my hate for that genre more than any other song. Anyway, Long live The Edge. may his influence and playing ability live long and inspire us each and every day.
