Wow, contempt for both Bono and the garbage collector and people with only a high school education and, of course, the dreaded “leftwing”…everyone has both the right and responsibility to speak their minds and to play a part in how the world is run. That’s why people have the right to vote, to protest, to write to their representatives, and so on. Their occupations mean nothing. Who should be running the world? politicians? Egads. People who feel that way just want to avoid the responsibility of thinking for themselves and being held accountable for the way things are. Ah, the luxury of moral, intellectual and spiritual laziness! Bono has a big soapbox, but it’s not his doing — the media decides who they want to cover and why. If you don’t believe that, call a press conference on your behalf and see who shows up. The media interest in Bono can mean he can get coverage for working against the AIDS pandemic or for going skinny dipping on vacation — we’ve seen evidence of both. So he’s taken a negative he’s stuck with and turned it into a positive. Pretty shrewd thinking for a guy with only a high school education! Because we all know that the one indisputable sign of intelligence and knowledge is a collection of graduate and post-graduate degrees. That’s why university professors are all so intelligent, relevant and interesting (pause while poster chokes uncontrollably.) and you have to hand it to Bono — doing this kind of work really takes its toll, but he’s sticking with it, and yet, whenever mention is made of his speaking somewhere on this issue, most of the feedback seems to be about why isn’t he home working on the album, doesn’t he look cute at the podium — never anything about what he’s talking about and where we’re at with the fight. You think it is fair that someone gets to state their political beliefs, thereby influencing millions, just because they have a certain level of fame? It is not fair! We all know that most celebrities in Hollywood are radical liberals, and the ones who are not don’t dare speak out because they will be blacklisted. (There goes free speech, that the libs are always complaining about, of course it does not apply when the speech is against them). I can name many Hollywood movies that make bad portrayals of conservatives for instance, Michael Moore movies, the recently cancelled hatchet job on the Reagans. Can you name any well known movies bashing liberals? Heck, name at least 3 well known conservatives in Hollywood who speak out constantly on issues as much as Bono? Now let me explain why I oppose Bono’s political appraisal from people like yourself. Bono is two faced and he is ignorant and not qualified to discuss the issues he sometimes raises.
Remember a few years ago at ZooTV time U2 had a special on TV. In this special Bono was promoting Alan Ginsburg as a great man and everyone should read his works. So I went out and did some investigation on Ginsburg. What I found out was that he is essentially a pedophile. He supporst organizations like NAMBLA and has made statement promoting sex between men and children. I was astonished Bono would be promoting such a person. Now I don’t think Bono had a clue as to this guy’s background and in no way was promoting this behavior. But, it showed me that Bono does not do his homework and makes statements without really knowing the consequences.
I have also read articles of Bono in European magazines and American magazines. I have noticed he always bashes the US in these foreign mags and TV interviews but in the US media he always says good things. This is two faced. Do u remember a few years ago the IRA threatened to kill Bono if he kept speaking out against them? Have u noticed Bono rarely if ever mentions the conflict anymore? Mr. Brave and expert on terrorism backed down like a little girl when it hit home with him. IMHO, his lack of internal fortitude to stand up for his beliefs makes it ridiculous for him to criticize Americans who have the guts to stand up for what they believe in.
Now lets get to Aids support. I have yet to read an article where he bashes Europe for not contributing more money to his cause, please show me one if u have seen it. Anyway, what good is sending all this money to these countries if it will just go to corrupt governments that will divert it to things it was not meant for. HE has no soultion to that!! And that is where the real problem lies. It is well known that most of the donations given to charities don’t go towards what it is meant for. When he was on that trip with Paul O’neil, this was a question that was asked to him and he had no answer to it. THe leftwing solution to everything is throw more money at it. They have done it with the school system in the US and the system is still the worst. Money does not solve everything and Bono’s claim that more money is needed is bogus.
