WBWC 88.3 FM “The Sting,” the radio voice of Baldwin-Wallace College, continues its long-running summer marathon series. This year’s marathon season will close out on Thursday, September 2nd, featuring 18 hours of nonstop music by Irish rockers U2.

Once More In The Name Of Love!

Longtime college DJs and U2 fans, Todd Richards and Mary Cipriani will once again be the co-hosts for this special broadcast day beginning at 7:00 am EST on September 2nd, and running continuously through 1:00 am EST September 3rd. Richards is an alumni of Baldwin-Wallace’s WBWC, and Cipriani is an alumni of John Carroll University’s WJCU 88.7FM. This is the fourth consecutive year that Richards and Cipriani have teamed up to host the U2 marathon on WBWC. In those four years, Richards and Cipriani have produced U2 marathons during the arrival of the 2001 Elevation Tour in Cleveland, interviewed members of the band’s production team, and broadcasted live from “In The Name Of Love: Two Decades Of U2,” the 2003 featured exhibit at the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame and Museum, kicking off the Hall’s U2 Fan Celebration event.

Portions of the marathon broadcast day on September 2nd will take place live from the Alan Freed Radio Studio on-site at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, starting at 10:00 am EST. You can even watch Richards and Cipriani on the Rock Hall’s webcam at www.rockhall.com/radiostudio.

Fans may participate in the marathon by emailing their requests in advance to request@wbwc.com (include topic “U2 Marathon”) and specify the hour (Eastern Standard Time) in which they’d like to hear the song. The U2004 Marathon will feature the entire musical history of the band including rarities, B-sides, imports, live tracks, and remixes. On the day of the marathon, listeners may also call in on the studio request line at 440-826-STING and/or send requests to request@wbwc.com.

Fans outside of the Greater Cleveland area may listen in via streaming audio at www.wbwc.com/ram/wbwc.ram. All WBWC.Com audio requires RealPlayer 8 or RealOne to listen, which can be downloaded from Real.com.

WBWC began its popular summer marathon series 24 years ago, featuring one artist’s music all day every Thursday throughout the summer. This will be the eighth time in 15 years that U2 has been featured on the marathon schedule. Other marathons scheduled the remainder of the summer include The Cure, The Beatles, Yes, and Sarah McLachlan. The complete 2004 Marathon Series listing is available at WBWC.com.

WBWC is a noncommercial, educational, FM radio station licensed to Baldwin-Wallace College. Celebrating its 46th year, WBWC signed on as the first totally student funded and operated radio station in the United States in 1958. WBWC features a Modern Rock/Triple-A format and operates within the Cleveland radio market.
