Have You Seen These Sunglasses?

Days after the theft of Edge’s CD in France, another item has allegedly been stolen from U2’s recording studio in France. Someone has made off with Bono’s sunglasses, according to The Mirror.

Perhaps it’s time for the band to hire a minder for their personal possessions?

U2 album in four different formats

While they do not rule the universe just yet, Universal Records is truly international. Which probably makes it hard for them to control the flow of information surrounding a major release. We’ve had the French branch revealing the, or ‘a’, release date and the Danish team corroborating that information.

Now Univeral Poland chips in with the news that U2’s new album (we’re not so sure of that ‘Vertigo’ title just yet — perhaps it’s the single?) will be released in four mouth watering flavours: ‘cd’, ‘vinyl’, ‘limited ed. CD + DVD’ and a tantalizing ‘limited edition box’.

Our Polish friends could not confirm the November 22 release date, or any other date for that matter.

U2 album rough cut lost or stolen

Police in Nice and Marseille are investigating the alleged theft of a CD containing songs from U2’s upcoming album. A police spokesman informed the press they are not sure whether the recording was stolen or ‘just got lost’. This news was reported earlier today by French newspaper Nice-Matin.

The CD went missing during a photo shoot at the (former) Victorine film studios in Nice.

Studios Victorines (image) is currently known as ‘Studios Riviera’. The former centre of horticulture was the backdrop for François Truffaut’s La Nuit Am

U2’s new album “full of big ideas”

Journalist Neil McCormick reports on the first full playback of the new U2 album in today’s Telegraph. (reg.req)

He writes: “It is a big album, full of big ideas, delivered with beginner’s energy and veteran’s craft.”

We’re looking forward to Neil McCormick’s new book ‘I Was Bono’s Doppelganger’.

McCormick, whose brother was present at that infamous first meeting after Larry Mullen put a ‘wanted’ ad on the school bulletin board, has written his memoirs of growing up in the shadow of this old friend Bono.

It’s available for pre-order from an Amazon.com (or UK) outlet (or other booksellers) near you.

If you’re looking for more things to read, why not go over to the Dallas Schoo fansite. Dallas has just completed an interview with his fanclub.

Words not your thing? There’s video and still images of the band meeting fans outside their studio on the ‘Station vs U2’ website.

Bits O’ Stories

Following up on some previous stories…One party named in the “Spider-man, the Musical” rumor has fessed up to the project being true. At the Ischia Film Festival in Italy this week, Julie Taymor admitted that she is, indeed, in talks to stage the show. If it happens, the show is two or three years down the road, she says.

…Don’t be surprised if the new U2 song you’ve heard on the internet (recorded in the wild winds of Dublin) doesn’t make it to the new album. Reliable sources tell us that the band are being indecisive about which songs to include on the new album and have not yet finalized the tracklist. In an effort to come to a final decision, the band have left Dublin for a location that– we hope, we pray–is conducive to good decision making.

If you are in the minority of fans who haven’t heard the afore-mentioned pirated track, you might want to visit U2wanderer.org to read Carl’s lyric transcription of the song, which fans have dubbed “All Because of You,” or follow the link to a cleaned-up (i.e., less wind-filled) mp3.
