I’m in a place called Vertigo
Oh, my! Is anyone else psyched about these lyrics? If they are real, the song could be great.
Yes sounds good!
*waiting patiently to hear the full track*
If these are indeed real, I was pleased to see such a marked change in lyrical direction from ATYCLB…in terms of Bono seeming to be less direct and more imagery poetic…a la UF and AB??
I bet that the first sentence we quoted should be ‘I’m in a place called Vertigo’. Think I’m going to change that.
Well that prompted me to download a few more fake tracks off p2p. It is nice to see something more poetic and complex. Hopefully they’ll stray a bit away from the friendly sound of ATYCLB and get a bit more progressive again.
If only they had a few more months to finish Pop, then they wouldn’t feel like they need to “compete with britney spears” to quote LArry. :/
Is it just me or is it taking FOREVER to hear real clips off this album… Seems like we already had some listenable stuff from ATYCLB by now (2 months before the release)??? Maybe not, I think I am just more excited by this one for some reason!!!
I say as I hit atu2.com and see we will have something Friday… t-minus 2 1/2 days!!!
What happened to the “I can feel your love taking me higher”? At least that’s what I heard
I am concerned about all the good words I am hearing about the U2 album. It has been my experience when U2 has people claiming their new album will be the best it usually is one of their worst. Case in fact, POP sucked but Achtung Baby was great!
Don’t they always say the next album is gonna be the best one ever?? Personally I think POP had some of their best writing… once the songs were played live for a while they really found themselves. A shame they were rushed so much at the end.
As for the lyrics, it could have been either an alternate take or just the clip was so distorted it sounded like something else.
I like the lyrics, but I’ll like even more when I get to hear the song. 🙂
Oh, not sure if you all have seen this or not. Enjoy!
I agree with gary, I like the lyrics to be as indirect as possible. I don’t think I could stand another lyric-scheme like: “…..hips, ….fingertips,…..lips” (etc)Remember that one? that’s to obvious and therefore a bit boring. Please let these lyrics be abstract and poetic!
Thanks joost! I think it’s hard to forget but at the same time, not easy to rememeber when Bono was considered a “poet.” I read back some of his lyrics even back to Boy..the depth and power at such an age…”Dont find yourself in someone else.” Lyrics that give ponderance to bigger ideas is what U2 and Bono’s best lyrics was always about. He allowed listeners to learn about themselves through his “indirectness.” I still wonder what motivated Bono as a poet on ATYCLB? To alter a style that had been so long standing. In any case, it’s admirable when an artist can do that. Just hope they bounce back!
I believe Bono is still capable of being poetic in his lyrics as well as straightforward if he wants. I think with ‘ATYCLB’, he figured it was best for U2 to be more accessible to the masses so as to get their message across. In that sense, ‘ATYCLB’could be classified as an ‘experimental’ move on U2’s part. Obviously, it was a smart move considering how successful the album was. Whereas with ‘Pop’, the lyrics were a bit more distant and not so easily translated. ‘Pop’ is a great album and I like the overall feel to it, but it was a bit over a lot of people’s heads. With ‘ATYCLB’, it’s U2 saying “here we are, and this is what we are all about.” Bono is such a talent because he knows how to write the lyrics in any style he wants.
Is it really “Hello, hello, I’,m in a place called Vertigo?”
I think i heard “Get it on, Get it on, here in this place called Vertigo” or something like that.
me thinks the first is cheesy….
