My first impression is that many lyrics sound like they were taken from the Unforgettable Fire era. Think about Promenade, TUF, Bad…
Did a quick scan of a few of the tunes, I dont want the whole treat to be given away. I love the imagery, i think some of the best lyrics since AB

bono did a lot of recycling again… check the lyrics and find the dublettes:)
Not one reference to ‘Apple’ or ‘Ipod’in these lyrics….
No sell-out as far as I’m concerned 😉
F***ing Brilliant…Life after Life…
I haven’t read them all yet, but i really like ‘Sometimes You Can’t Make it On Your Own’..
i think NME described that song as similar to ‘With Or Without You’? I think i’m gonna love it.
Offtopic: The video for Vertigo is up at AOL, click my name below!
All these teasers make me wish it was already 22 november 2004!!!
I really like the lyrics of SOMETIMES YOU CAN
Did anyone find the line in Original of the Species a tad odd that goes “I am the Eggman, I am the Bono, koo-koo ka choo”
These lyrics are so beautiful.. and from the sounds of some clips of the songs as well.. it’s going to be so special/beautiful. It does remind me of a mix between Achtung and Unforgettable Fire in terms of lyrics, which to me is heaven on cd, LOL
“I am the Eggman, I am the Bono, koo-koo ka choo”
That’s funny. Bono signed something (my book on Gavin Friday) for me on the last tour and wrote: “I am he and he is she and we are all together.”
The lyrics seem more overtly personal than before.
I can’t look. It’s like peeking at your Christmas pressies early.
“I can’t look. It’s like peeking at your Christmas pressies early.”
I shouldn’t have, too, but I couldn’t help.
… my other potential quote was “I am the Edge-man, I am the Bono, koo-koo ka choo” but then I thought everyone would think I’m lame and hate me and force me to listen to Elvis Ate America from Passengers over and over again until my ears bled…
this album is incredible.
now if only the “editors” of this little website don’t edit my comments as the do everytime – some of you might get this…
Parts of the lyrics are recycled, but Bono does that on nearly every album. I think, on a whole, these lyrics are deeper than anything since Joshua Tree. I, personally, cannot wait until this CD comes out.
I need the music to help me interpret these lyrics…except for the obvious stuff about his dad.
I am somewhat nonplussed about these lyrics, only because without the music it’s like reading bad highschool poetry.
I will say that there appear to be fewer interesting turns of phrases than there used to be. They’re not bad by any means but they’re by no means independently great without the music.
“between the horses of love and lust, we are trampled underfoot” – nothing on that level. Alas.
Must… not… read…!
Well, maybe just one song…
too late! the copyright police have reared their ugly heads once again!
“Until the clarification about the rights to publish the lyrics we have to take them offline.”
But then again, my printer is faster !
By the way, aren’t you guys puzzled, how u2tour.de got hold of these lyrics?
we received the ylrics from our local universal office. now this office and the london office are having an arguement over the rights for publishing…
we`ll keep ya posted!
the folks @ u2tour.de
They were ordered today to take the lyrics down. The notice went out to interference as well.
Argghhhhh . . .If there is anyone out there who copied the lyrics into a document file before they were taken down from the website, would you please e-mail me a copy?
(I didn’t realize my address wouldn’t automatically be available above)
lookin’ for a lawsuit? you guys can be sued now that they have your E-MAIL…duuuuheeer
Deeper tan anything since the Josua Tree? have you heard Achtung Bay, Zooropa and Pop? All these albums contain some of the best lyrics ever written. Tom has a nice example.
