U2log.com redesigns

We’re back, we’re sporting new threads, new features and a new appetite for all things U2.

Besides the new look you’ll find a section on our homepage called “//Departures” (archive) where we’ll post links that need no explanation. We will we continue to provide news and commentary on the main part of our site. But that’s not all.


Syndication and mobile access has been improved with more XML feeds and dedicated WAP and PDA pages.

We now use Six Apart’s TypeKey service to offer comment privileges to registered users.

Forum, chat and photo commentary is available in our annex at Flickr.com.

Update: We are aware our new design looks like arse in MSIE 5.5 (Windows) and MSIE 5 (Mac). Apologies to those of you still condemned to the use of these browsers. Perhaps now’s the time to upgrade?

xhtml and css templates were created by our resident CSS god Chris Schmitt. Design, Movable Type installation, configuration and massaging by Caroline van Oosten de Boer.

  11. Caroline: Yeah, it sorta works. It tells me that I’m required to pass along my email address, which I thought I had told it to do on typekey. If I click sign-in again, it lets me through and comment.

  19. I love the Firefox button and the update on the news item, I’ve been using it since .6 or so it’s a great browser. I like the U2 spyplane header for the departures page, any intent to get different headers for the different subsections of the site?

    Typekey worked fine for me, nice to see more functionality with the design change. Viva la bleeding edge!

  25. @Carl: different headers is a possibility, but I would like to keep the page loads low, we’re on bandwidth overdraft every month.

  29. Had problems registering with Typekey before for comments, but it seems fixed now. Nice update! Nifty, fresh blog for nifty, fresh U2. 🙂
