  1. choose not to download it this time, but i´m listening to the whole bcc stuff from today and nme streams and also the chicago radio station preview from last saturday, and i have to say this is going to be on of the hugest U2 albums to be released yet. it´s amazing from beginning to end, it grows and grows, as it always is with new U2 material. i´m absolutely blown away! and speaking as a guitar player, it feels all so incredibly logic and clear.

  3. Although there’s some good music (including Crumbs From Your Table from the new album) in the first part of the show, I figured I’d post the times of key points for those who want to skip ahead in the stream. The interview with Bono (with other songs mixed in) starts roughly at 20:11 and the concert starts at about 20:38.

  5. Ah. Finally I’ve come across a readable U2 ‘log’ site 🙂

I sat with my mobile phone/radio for almost two hours waiting for the live set, and it was worth it. Bono’s voice was in excellent form and the new songs are working out rather well in a live setup.

Shame ‘Beautiful Day’ wasn’t ‘City Of Blinding Lights’ or ‘Original Of The Species’. Oh well, not long till the tour 🙂

  7. Miracle Drug sounded a little better to me on second listening. Band and singer where a bit out of synch, but it’ll grow.

  9. This album is pretty kickass. All I can say is that City of Blinding Lights is gonna be the stadium anthem, Love and Peace or Else is just a nasty dirty song which comes from like the other terminal of achtung baby (and then that pretty part at 3:30 is just priceless), and A Man and A Woman sounds like my summer song in December to me…

All hail to Adam for the return of bass.

Do I click the Jo link or the Zane link? I’ve been listening for an hour now and I’ve heard lots of promos for the U2 special … but so far no U2 performing!

Oh for chrissakes, now all I’m getting is hip-hop. HELP!!!!!!!

  15. Cheers mate.

Sorry for my panic attack — I tend to go a wee bit mad whenever I turn on the radio and I hear cockney scat-rap and songs about female milkshakes … thank the gods almighty for U2, I say! From what I’ve heard of HTDAAB so far, I’m blown away by U2’s brilliance.

  17. Yeah, this sucker is growing on me. VERY impressed they went with such stripped down arrangement, with Edge trying to cover synth parts with his midi delay from his guitar etc. Even Miracle Drug was pretty bare bones in backing instrumentation, the rest non-existant (as far as i can tell from the crap sound). Bono should have just let Edge take those falsetto parts, but whatever.

Stoked to see them without the backing tracks they had with the ATYCLB stuff at first.

  19. WOW!! The new songs sound great. I can’t wait for the tour. Glad to hear the “She gonna blow you’re house down” drum beat in “All because of you”. Great song and a great performance by the band.

  21. PJ- glad you found this site. Caroline- it’s only 1 of 2 I check regularly- you guys are an oasis of sanity in a sea of syncophants.

The U2 live book is fantastic. That was you guys, right?

  23. @phillipsan: sorry about that, I shouln’t try to be smart when it’s 2 am.

@keirdubous: the live book was me, but mostly my friend PJ († 2002)

  25. Thanks for making me feel welcome. For those of you that don’t like the rather annoying javascript thingy the Radio 1 site uses, here are the direct links to load the streams straight into Realplayer so you can navigate around easily… Perhaps these could be included in the main article? 🙂

    Jo Whiley’s Broadcast :

    Zane Lowe’s Broadcast :

(If Realplayer throws a wobbly and asks you which program to open these with, choose Realplayer and all will be well. Strange! :P)

  27. This is the album of their career!
City of Blinding lights is the next “40” anthem. I can hear it now live in Miami!!! The album is a masterpiece from the first track to the end.
Can’t wait to see the tour..

  29. “The album is a masterpiece from the first track to the end.”

I love the new album, but ‘One Step Closer’ and ‘Yahweh’ still don’t grab me and I don’t think they ever will.

COBL, LAPOE, OOTS, MD and SYCMIOYO are easily, for me, up there with the greatest tracks they’ve ever done, and that’s not just because they’re fresh in my mind. I’m generally not one for a knee-jerk reaction; I was disappointed with ATYCLB and still am. Didn’t get any better with time :/

  31. Im trying to wait till sunday when it comes out in Oz. However Ive ‘accidentally’ heard yahweh, miricle drug and Origin of the species…… Cant wait. A lot of good music out at the moment. Any U2 fan will like the band Evermore, out of NZ. Listen to “Are you Satisfied”
