New U2.com live but not kicking just yet

U2’s official site, U2.com, has got a new look and new bells and whistles, including the substitute for their former print magazine ‘Propaganda’: a paid online membership to U2.com.

Great! But hold on to your hats, because the site is experiencing some start up problems. Not all U2log.com editors have been able to secure memberships. Sometimes usernames appear ‘taken’, then end up being yours after all.

It is impossible to order membership by itself. You HAVE to order another article to get an option in the ‘shipping’ dropdown. (Mousemats are relatively cheap.)

The above ‘shipping’ problem has now been fixed.

  1. Lack of a shipping adress with a subscrition seems to be the reason for the problems with subscribing.

My work-around: order a shirt or something else and everything will go smoothly….

    Now that’s what I call a sellout!! 🙂

  3. Yeah, I have the same problem. When I went back to fix it, the system forgot my credit card info, but then gave no possibility to enter them again.

I also was told my username was already taken. When I chose another one, things went well. Later in my mailbox, it appeared I am now signed up twice with both usernames.

  5. I’d like to get that far — I moved, and the forwarding just expired, so I’m not even going to get that $20 discount for the unused Propaganda subscription I had. I wouldn’t care except for the chance to get tix. Geez, whoever thought, back in the day when you had to stand on line in the underwear department of Macy’s to get to the Ticketron outlet, that it would all only get WORSE??

  7. Oh yeah I’d much prefer the sleeping bags in the rain, ticket office having to open at midnight, kind of nightmare that we had to go through in the 80s. At least you could look people in the eye and shout ‘gimme my blooydy ticket NOW, or else!’

  9. From a mailing list, a good overview of the problems people have:

    – when i order the U2 membership without credit card information, i
have to add credit card information
    – when i order the U2 membership with credit card information, i
    can’t choose a shipping method
    – when i order the U2 membership and a t-shirt, i can’t order because they don’t have credit card information.

  11. Oh but I’m still considering standing/sitting in line for ticks, just for the fun of it 😉

Caroline, i signed up three times, just got through to comfirmation on one though, shouldn’t be a problem….or else an opportunity to start ma verra own ticketstore 😉

You can sign in under your registered name of choice and go on (don’t forget to order something besides the subscription to make it work)
I got confirmation on the one that worked eventually, the other ones will just become invalid in due time….

  13. Seems like loads of fans experiencing some kind of vertigo over all this….

Best advice is to wait indeed. (membership section not that rich anyhow….yet….)

  15. I don’t believe it. I have just acquired U2.com membership. I had to order a bloody mousemat to get something in the shipping dropdown. Oh well, I’ll use it at work. Too bad I don’t use a mouse.

  19. Does anyone know what to do or who to comment about Propaganda memberships. I have one that was unused but have moved at least 3 or 4 times so there is no way I’m getting that forwarding. I would have changed my address but I thought they where shutting it down for good.

  23. Annie,

I have the same problem. I can’t find my propaganda member ID number and haven’t been able to change my address. So if someone can help that would be great. Thanks.

  25. Well, I got my username, but apparently “all checkout lines are busy” so I can’t actually pay for it yet. Here’s hoping they just give me the membership without asking for my credit card, due to some weird PHP error. ;-D

  27. so okie dokie.. this is what i got when i tried to subscribe at u2.com…

// At this time all of the U2 check-out lines are very busy!
If you would prefer to try back later, please return to U2.com, LOGIN using your just completed LOGIN NAME and PASSWORD and click the SUBSCRIBE link.

eerrmmm… is it me, or dublin, do we have a problem?? cripes. i run a humble little website and don’t have multi-millions at my reach for proficient resources. i’m just.. buggered. see ok, i was one of those propaganda subscribers who received 1 issue of the mag and >>POOF
don’t get me wrong.. the old site was AWFUL and it was time for a change. and from what i have been able to see (between re-boots), the new site looks promising… but at this late hour, i’m far too frustrated with LOGIN problems to see anymore. maybe i’ll heed the above suggestion.. and maybe i won’t. i’m getting a bit too ticked to care.

(ps.. please tell me how dismantle a disgruntled u2.com web surfer???)

  29. …I went through the same expierences but I got through while I discovered I was somehow ‘logged-in’ on to the free thing. I then pushed the button ‘subscribe’and there was my membership popping up. Had to fill my cc number, that was all! No shipping dilema’s anymore…

  31. I might have thought that there would have been a range of new content to coincide with the new site. The new site is completely disappointing – the content seems to mostly date back to the old u2.com which was replaced a couple of months back… Very amateur.
