We’re not sure if it’s because we had to wait so long or if it’s, in the words of a fellow u2log editor, further proof of Canada’s burgeoning cultural superiority but either way – Canadian iTunes Music Store (iTMS) users can buy individual tracks from the Complete U2 set, without having to drop $150 on the whole shebang.
More money for beer, eh?
[Update] Looks like someone told on us. It’s now back to the all or nothing arrangement like all the other stores. Hope you got while the getting was good.
Chris, just FYI, I’m nominating you in U2log’s internal “Best Post Title Of The Year” awards. ;-D

Aw shucks. I just barely made it past being eligible for “Editor with Only One Post To His Name” award so this is truly an honor. 🙂

So they cut us off on the 2nd day, eh?
Well, ha ha ha ha ha! I downloaded all the rare stuff I didn’t have last night, just before they shut down single-track purchase to the “Rare and Unreleased” stuff this morning.
Really, I can’t understand why they would do that.
I own every single U2 CD and CD-single, as well as a bunch of vinyl and a few cassettes. Everything commerically available that I can get my hands on, I own — including some of those early singles like “11 O’Clock Tick Tock,” “Three,” and “A Celebration.”
The only reason why I would buy “U2 (not so) Complete” is to have access to cleaner, digital versions of those vinyl tracks and the unreleased stuff. I don’t need inferior MP3s of album tracks I already own! From an audiophile perspective, MP3s are a bit iffy anyway, so I can’t see myself buying whole albums in a digital format at this time, when I can still buy CDs. The new album is selling for $12.99 Canadian here in Vancouver in most stores — with the DVD. So, the logic of paying $0.99 for 12 tracks to get MP3s defies logic.
Anyway. I’m happy I’ve been able to get my hands on “Xanax and Wine” (an early version of “Fast Cars”) and “Native Son” (early version of “Vertigo” with better lyrics) and a a few other tidbits that I didn’t have because they’ve never been put out.
By the way — where’s “I’m Not Your Baby,” the vocal version from the End of Violence soundtrack. That’s a really good U2 song, sadly left off of Pop. And the cool version of “Stay” from the Faraway, So Close soundtrack? Or the long version of “The Wanderer” from the same soundtrack, for that matter?
On the other hand, I’m not surprised that “Be There” wasn’t included either, or “My Wild Irish Rose,” or the remix of “Wire” from the promo single. And all the cover tunes from the Rattle & Hum and Achtung Baby era were not necessary, so it’s not a crime that they were left off either — though I suppose that “Satelite of Love” was an important part to that whole ZOO TV era, since it was done at every show, and because it’s one of the few cover songs that U2 do well. “Beat on the Brat” from last year’s Ramones tribute isn’t bad either, but it’s absent as well.
Oh well.
Sorry to all of you who missed out on the one-day individual purchase of the songs!

Oh . . . The long studio version of “11 O’Clock Tick Tock” is on there too. I didn’t notice that. You can still buy that one individually — it’s under the listing for the “Pride” single.
I’ve had the regular, three-and-a-half minute version of the studio rendition of “11 O’Clock Tick Tock” on vinyl and on the Martin Hannet tribute CD for many a year . . . but it fades out before the end of the song.
I’m happy to finally have this, since it is one of my favourite U2 performances. Very Joy Division in its sound (thanks to Hannet) and its minimalism.

Not sure what happened with ITunes Canada..but I’m not complaining! I wasn’t impressed either that you couldn’t buy the individual songs in the rare & unreleased bundle but was happy to do it when I could! It was like being able to climb into the Tickle Trunk!
