Welcome to the O.C., B***

With apologies for the sound of Sandy and Kirsten macking at the start of this mp3, here’s an edited version of U2’s ‘Sometimes you can’t make it on your own’ which was used as the background music to the closing scene of this week’s episode of the Fox hit series The O.C..

U2 faced some pretty stiff competition in this episode from Las Vegas’s excellent young contenders The Killers, who appeared on stage in a bar scene.

  1. Thanks for the mp3. I hope that the band was behind this edit of “Sometimes,” because I do think that it points the way for what needs to be done with the song when they release it as a single. It’s a terrific song, but the album version is too slow and plodding for the first 2 verse/choruses. It takes three long minutes until things get moving, and I believe that even Bono has commented in interviews that the song takes a while to get going. I wonder if any of the other fans out there wonder (as I do) what would’ve been the result if Steve Lillywhite had produced this song?

  3. I’d love to hear an edited version just start with the verse, maybe edit out the solo in the middle, with a small break, then go right into the can you hear me when I sing part…. I think musically the key change is neat and all, but for the radio its not totally necessary.

Who cares, so long as Mercy is its B-side 🙂
