Ticketmaster and U2.com info clash

U2.com sent out another e-mail to their members earlier today in which they state the following:

“As a U2.Com subscriber you can use your unique code sent in our earlier email to buy four tickets for shows in ONE of the following countries – Ireland, France, Spain, Holland, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Austria, Poland, Switzerland, Germany, Italy, Portugal.”

… so, if your country happens to have more concerts than one (France and Germany for example), you can supposedly buy 2 tickets for the one gig now and 2 for another within the same country when they go on sale. (Paris / Nice. Gelsenkirchen / Munich) Or can you?

In the same e-mail, the advice from Ticketmaster states:

You can only purchase up to 4 tickets for a single show of your choice.

Poor communication has been the main reason for the current confusion and uproar over U2 ticket sales. So much heartache could have been prevented and could still be prevented if only the information was loud and clear. Whoever’s in charge of this, it’s time shift professional gears. The days of the Dandelion Market have long gone.

And for those of you buying tickets today: we think it’s best to stick to Ticketmaster’s advice.

  1. This is the exact reason I’ll have to go to eBay to buy any more tickets. The communication throughout this has been an absolute joke. Full of vague wording, conflicting advice and just totally confusing.

  3. i believe you voiced your criticism in an accurate way, nothing´s wrong with that.

i also hope there´s going to a definite official statement about all this, which might probably clear up a lot of things and wipe out some of the frustration created in the last few days.

apart from bad communication, i also believe some decisions had to be made very quickly in order to get a grip on scalpers. and obviously these have not only affected those it should have.

to make the band directly responsible for all the mess created would in my view bea quick shot, that most certainly results from an incredible ammount of frustration.

a lot arguments out there right now are way out of proportion from what actually happened.

still, there´s lots of mistakes being made here, and they should be cleared up. i´m sure people responsible for this, work hard to get these things done, cause in the long run, it can only be their interest to do so, even if “this” is U2 (and with that the fucking biggest rock band out there…)

they are not untouchable, for that i think criticism is justified, and let´s be honest, you didn´t flame them…..it´s all well within being nice but to the point.

  5. There are currently 1547 items found for U2 TICKETS on EBAY.

Great job Ticketmaster / U2.con – note sarcasm

  7. Looks like tickmasterbater is melting down in America right now.

Just tried to book Boston tickets and kept timing out / internal service error.

    Giving up

  9. Yes, Ticketmaster completely f*cked up the Philly and Boston sale this morning. I received four different error messages before finally getting a “tickets are not available” screen.

I’m so glad my experiences on the Elevation tour (5 shows) were so wonderful, because it looks like those might be the last U2 shows I see for a looooong while.

  11. Well, I still have nothing for nowhere.

I was trying to get Philly with no luck, and a screen pops up that says a show has been added. Hurrah! Wait – it’s on the 22nd while the first show is on the 14th? What the? Is that right? Who put together this itinerary, a crackhead? No matter. Surely I’m ahead of the game on this one! I scroll down eagerly…but the tickets are not on sale. Refresh, refresh, refresh, refresh, refresh – no luck. So I surmise that they’re being put on sale later.

I move on to try to get tickets for the Boston show that’s just been added – I don’t need ’em, but perhaps I could trade. No luck. So I go back and take another look at Philly, which is now on sale, and gone! (This is all GA, by the way, but an occasional Best Available check shows me exactly one pair of tickets available behind the stage. No thanks.)

Hopefully some of you guys had better luck, but I really think scalpers have most of them. Oh yeah, and the 50% that are still held back. Way to go, U2!

  13. I am fully in favour of U2 making a few crap records the next few years. Maybe that’ll make it easier for us. This ‘hottest ticket’ thing is dragging us down.

  15. New dates for Boston and Philly were added and are now sold out.
I thought i had read this on U2.com:
“Stay tuned for more information about additional dates. Paul McGuinness, U2’s manager, has told U2.com, that the band intends to play more shows throughout North America, including Madison Square Garden in the Autumn. U2.com subscribers who haven’t booked tickets so far, will be notified with advance information on booking tickets for North American dates, as soon as additional shows are confirmed.”

I checked my mail box and U2.com and saw no announcement.

This is what a call “brilliant” damage control

As for the crap record the last two are already half-half with the last one being a mega-cut and pasting of all remaining outtakes from 93-00. I wonder what was the last time they wrote a tune from scratch…

I thought they’d already done that with ATYCLB and HTDAAB, hah hah. Unfortunately the more anodyne the music becomes the more popular they get. What we should really hope for is something to come from way out of left field – another Passengers or something. Then we can return to the halcyon half empty stadium days of Popmart 3rd Leg!

  19. If they do another Passengers, Larry might not show up for the tour. But that saves him from having to look at our ‘same old faces’.

  23. Did you also notice the article in the LA times that spread like wildfire around the US papers? In it someone claimed that all U2.com members who ran out of luck during presales will be contacted in the start of next week to see how problems can be solved.

You’d think they’d mention this on their own website before they go blabbing to the press about it. Of course, it could just be bullshit anyway.

U2.com really needs to grow up very quickly. Poor sods in charge should get a clue and ask U2log.com for some pointers 🙂 We’ve only been doing this internet thing for what… 10+ years?

  25. @e,

U2.com did say that fans who mailed their code and phone-number would get a call at one point….but somehow it’s gone now…it was in one of their “we’re very sorry” stories…..

  29. There are currently 3307 items found for u2 tickets on Ebay.

So thats at least 6614 tickets for show being scalped.

    What a crock !!

  31. Also note that the email sent on the 28th of January claims that the presale date for the Vienna gig is “from Thursday 3 February to Friday 4 February”. On the U2.com/tourinfo site, it claims the presale for this one is Feb 1 though. Sigh.
