Travel operator ETS and American Express have been asked to return their GA (standing room) tickets to U2, who appear to be reclaiming as many GA tickets as they can, to be able to meet members’ demands in upcoming presales. We can’t imagine ETS or Amex being particularly pleased about this, but it’s good news for those still waiting for their shows to go on sale.
The Sunday Times reports U2’s lawyers are chasing ticket touts on eBay.
Well it happened again on Ticketmaster in the public sale Sat AM (sigh). I was on high-speed internet and tickets were unavailable for Boston *immediately* – I mean that at several seconds after 10AM EST, ticket sales opened, & I even have an account at Tickemaster that streamlines the process, and by the time the computer searched, there was NOTHING left. Nothing. Not at ANY level, anywhere?!??!? So are they saving “all those” GA tickets for fan club access? Or are they just being purchased by more scalpers….

I do not know how to feel about ETS and AMEX releasing there ticket holds. My thought on this is that if U2 had an effective model for which to redistribute tickets to fans then this is a benefit however; it appears that a large percentage of tickets are going to scalpers. Many measures can be taken to prevent ticket scalping. I worked for the management firm of a very large artist and it was always important for us to ensure that fans received the best tickets. At least with ETS or AMEX there was a reasonable chance to procure GA tickets. I would rather ETS or AMEX distribute these tickets then to have them snatched up by scalpers.

What is going to happen with the tickets these touts are holding?

I’ll be buying a couple once they realise the demand is by far less than the supply 😉
