Snow Patrol snags Vertigo Tour’s Euro leg

While U2.com already confirmed Kings of Leon as U2’s support band for the US leg of the upcoming tour, we were left in the dark as to who would support the band during the EU leg.

Well, it seems the cat’s out of the bag at last. NME reports that Snow Patrol will be supporting U2 at the Brussels, Manchester, Dublin, Berlin and Paris gigs. U2.com adds that The Killers may be up for some other Euro dates.

  1. I rather like Snow Patrol. Ran into them a couple of times last year at the Isle of Wight Festival and when they supported the Pixies in Amsterdam’s Heineken Music Hall. They’re not the best band ever, musically, or technically, or the most original, but they have a certain enthusiasm that’s incredibly catchy. There seem to be a lot of bands these days that stand around on the stage looking uninterested and as if they’d rather be elsewhere than in front of their admiring audience. Not the case with Snow Patrol… they’re like labrador pups, excited to be and ddo o just what they are and doing just what they are doing. I admire them for that.

I’m looking forward to seeing them again.

  3. I really wanted Scissor Sisters too. Snow Patrol write beautiful music, but its not the kind of music to warm you up for a rock show IMO.

I was hoping for the long-shot of The Go! Team πŸ™‚

  7. Snow Patrol in Brussels, not bad. But I had hoped for Interpol. If you don’t know the band, check it out! There’s a bit of The Chameleons in there, as well as other 80’s influences (Joy Division, Comsat Angels, Sound..), and all that has a connection with the early U2…

  11. Agreed that Interpol don’t need / wouldn’t want a mainstream rock act to open for. Saw them in Bristol in December, they’re utterly brilliant. They’re a cult hit, I don’t think they’d want the attention. Would like to see what their rythm section could come up with combined with Bono & Edge.

  13. I guess Pixies and Fatima Mansions didn’t need U2 either , nore did The Comsat Angels and many other ‘cult’ band at the time.
What I’m trying to say: stop categorising bands, it’s so superficial. In Belgium we have a great radio broadcast, called “Studio Brussel”. They play, anything, as long as it’s GOOD. You can hear Interpol and OMD right after 50’cent. We don’t devise people nore bands in “AOR”, Adult Alternative, or whatever…Free your mind and the rest will follow!
