U2.com announce 3rd leg presales

U2.com members have received an e-mail to inform them of Monday’s official announcement of U2’s Fall tour of North America. The letter also lets former Propaganda (U2’s former print magazine) members know they can expect their codes to be re-enabled to purchase tickets for one of the shows in the Fall leg:

As promised in Larry’s letter last month, we have worked to improve the system, to look after former Propaganda subscribers and those U2.Com Subscribers who have not yet been able to buy tickets for the tour. This will still be on a first come, first served basis and though we can’t guarantee the ticket you’re looking for, this time remember you’ll only be competing against other former propaganda members for tickets on the first day.

The mailshot ends with the encouraging statement that U2 have been allocated greater capacity for U2.com subscribers.

  1. There is no way they can “control’ this. As I said before, family is all good, but Adam’s bro is not in the know when it comes to security on the web. They didn’t address how they would keep brokers from using their 500 u2.com memberships to scoop up more tickets. Hopefully that is why they didn’t mention it, because they did find a way….
YIKES…I want the paper “mailed in” ticket request of the old days!!Propaganda used to RULE!
A 25 year fan, now a 40 yo man…I am so pissed how this whole thing has been handled. I would gladly give the boys $300-400 for a “great seat”, but not to some scalper/broker asshole!!

  3. Actually I think they’ve found a fairly brilliant way to deal with the problem of scalpers buying up memberships. Only members who didn’t use their codes, or who were former Propaganda subscribers still have active codes. And no codes were given out for people who signed up after the first presale deadline. So all the scalpers who used their codes to get tickets to the 1st leg are out of the picture this time. Also, putting the 3rd leg on sale this early may undercut scalper prices for the 1st leg.

Of course, this doesn’t help people who used their codes for crappy 1st leg seats. And it won’t fix anything if the problem is actually with ticketmaster. But the way they’ve decided which codes to keep active and the way they’re giving preference to former Propaganda members is actually pretty smart. (I’m not a former Propaganda member, but I still think it’s very fair and benefits fans without benefiting scalpers.) So long as there really are more seats available this time (and this seems to have been the case in the later presales), this really is the best I could have hoped for from U2.com.

I may be in Europe when the dates I’m interested in go on sale. Can anyone with experience accessing the US ticketmaster site from Europe tell me if there’s anything special I should know? I’d be using a US mailing address and credit card, so that’s not a problem. Are connection times likely to be slower? I’m basically trying to decide whether to do it myself from Europe or talk someone here into doing it for me, knowing that I’d have less control over the results that way.

  5. Interesting. Last I looked I was a fully paid up U2.com subscriber, but I sure didn’t get no email.

  7. You know what stinks? I thought I was being all prudent when I waited to subscribe for U2.com when all the shit hit the fan with the first presales. I’m a former Propaganda member, so I thought I’d be ok. And I did right by not paying right away – they didn’t have any dates in my area and it was a giant mess anyhow. So now I think, finally, some shows I can go to, and they won’t let me sign up anymore. 🙁

  9. Caroline, you posted:

“The letter also lets former Propaganda (U2’s former print magazine) members know they can expect their codes to be re-enabled to purchase a pair of tickets for one of the shows in the Fall leg”

    but my letter says:

“As a former Propaganda subscriber with an unused code, you will be able to use your code to buy 2 PAIRS OF TICKETS FOR TWO SHOWS OF YOUR CHOICE (4 tickets in total) in the pre-sale for the Fall leg.”

  11. Well, it’s now March 7, 7PM EST and I have not gotten any email from U2.com. I am U2.com subscriber in good standing and am interested in the Ottawa show in November. I have my unused access code from Round One but I do not have the link for the presale. Can anyone share that link? Note: I did get some odd emails this weekend so I wonder if U2.com is having technical difficulties. Did everybody else get their emails this weekend or today?

  13. Steb, so far they haven’t e-mmailed us any special link. The Tour Info section of U2.com indicates that the links will show up there (you have to be logged in). Passwords are the same ones we were originally given.

    Hope this helps,
    Anne

  15. Steb, I just re-checked U2.com and when you log in, all the relevant info is now in the red box on the right side of the page.

  17. Anne,

Thanks. Your remarks are encouraging and yes I just saw that new info on the U2 site. That said, the info on the bottom right hand corner is a bit misleading. It doesn’t really tell you which presales are this week and which are next. The show I’m interested in is not even mentioned on either link leading me to believe it will be next week. But I would like some confirmation of when things will be happening rather than having to check 3 the site times daily. But at least I have that link and things seem to be happening so I think things will fall into place.

  19. I just got the “email” with all the pre-sale info. I guess I should have just relaxed a bit.

  21. I was just wondering if anyone knew when the tickets were going on sale for the Sept. 23rd show at the Target center. I don’t know if there is going to be a presale ticket master doesn’t have any info on presale. I have been a long time fan of U2 but never a suscriber. I have been to their last three tours, but never good seats. It really upsets me that people take advantage of the presale. I think that they should just limit sales and forget all of the complication of presale. I am sure that this time around I will still have nosebleed seats just like the last three tours I went to.
