Let’s call it the ‘smoothest presale ever’. The first online presale of U2’s Fall tour tickets for former members of U2’s Propaganda magazine started today. These longtime fans are now finding the order procedure vastly improved. It’s still in progress as tickets for various dates get released throughout the day, but it sounds like most people were able to buy whatever type of ticket they want, GA or seated, with relatively few problems.
The service seems on par with or better than what subscribers were used to in the past, with Propaganda’s (paper) order forms. Your U2log.com editor effortlessly booked 2 GA’s for one of the ‘hot’ New York dates.
Which proves that all you really need for a quality service is for one pissed off drummer to get involved. Fair play to U2’s organisation and Ticketmaster for fixing what was broken.
Great news for our American fellow-fans! I got my ticks in the Euro-presale, now my code even got reset, too bad I don’t have the ‘bling’ to attend a fall-legg show 😉
It’s good to hear though things are running even smoother now, especially for those who got bummed earlier on. Back then I was quick in howling with the wolves, let me be quick now in congretulating everyone on a job well-done…

Caroline, I couldn’t agree more!! The 1st leg pre-sale was a shambles – U2, or more specifically Larry acted on that and now the reports are that PROP members get tixs of choice. I think it’s only fair after the beating they took on web forums, fansites and even the printed media that we acknowledge how brilliantly they handled the situation and also helped renew the faith of some long-term fans that felt a little burnt out after the first pre-sale. Go Raibh Maith Agat U2!

I picked up two pair of GA tix to 10/7 & 10/10 at MSG in less than five minutes. Smooth and painless.
Thanks for looking out for us.

I’m glad things are working out for others, but (to my knowledge) nothing was ever done to address the problem of Propaganda members whose information was “lost” by Prop. I was a Prop member for about seven years, and never recieved any special letter or e-mail. None of my (many) e-mails to U2.com about the issue were ever answered. But, hopefully I’ll be able to get tickets tomorrow through the U2.com member presale, because I never even had a chance for the first NA leg of the tour.
I’m still upset over the whole thing and have to admit that it has colored my view of the band and the business of U2. At least they’re doing something right by the fans this time around, but I do so wish they would take responsibility for the fiasco the first time around. (Phrases like “Due to circumstances beyond our control…” and “The ticketing system failed many fans…” are a way to distance the band and their management from taking responsibility for sending false messages, not setting aside enough tickets, not responding quickly enough to concerns, etc.)

I’m happy for the US fans, things are working fine for them now.
But what about the European fans who are without a ticket? (and were propaganda member?)
Ron i’m in the same position as you, member of prop and no email…

Yay…I got GA tickets to 2 shows…that was quick and painless, unlike my unsuccessful attempts for the first leg. Thank You!!!!
This was in the presale email I recieved on March 7th…from the “FAQ”:
Q – How Many Tickets Can I buy?
A – Propaganda Members who have not already bought tickets can purchase 1 pair of tickets for up to 2 shows (4 tickets total but not 4 for any one venue).
Did I read this correctly? Doesn’t that mean that we couldn’t get multiple nights in the same city? Not complaining (well, kind of), but, I would have liked 2 NYC nights. I got 2 tickets for 1 night NYC and 1 night Philly….but happy to have tix at all. Just wondering if anyone else debated over which shows to pick like i did, because of the above q & a…

I am having the same problem as Bieke2be and Ron Coleman and I am really upset about it – I haven’t missed a tour since Zoo TV. I am glad it is working for so many people, but I can’t get through to anyone at the U2.com phone number or get anything but an automated response from their email system. Does anyone have any suggestions??

I’m sure you have already received multiple complaints about this but I’m going to make another one. Why are you reinstating Propaganda membership pre-sale codes but not reinstating U2.com subscription codes. This is outrageous! I can understand giving them the first chance at the tickets although even that is going a little too far but then to deny the chance to the thousands who were promised that they would be given a pre-sale for the 3rd leg of the tour by Larry himself is utterly ridiculous. Yes, I used my code but not for the show I wanted and only because I felt like I had to use it or lose it. Can’t you see you’re only encouraging scalping by not reissuing codes to all your members? You are making it a hundred times easier for brokers and scalpers to get better tickets and making them practically impossible for real fans to get a hold of them. What you should be doing is verifying legitimate memberships and canceling people with multiple accounts, it can’t be that difficult. You need to rethink this decision and allow everyone access to your first presales. It is unjust that you would give preferential treatment to anyone with a membership, we have all paid for the same benefits.

I hate to sound grouchy, but I kind of agree with cheated. I’m ecstatic that so many good and true fans are having great luck, and I’m definately relieved that everyone involved came through on the promise to make things better. I, like many of you, don’t like the feeling of so many people being angry at our band. So that’s great. And’s its almost enough to make up for how I feel. But I feel like the scalpers got me twice now. First they got all the decent tickets, forcing me to get nosebleed seats to a show quite a distance away. Had I known they’d be coming to Omaha, where I live (never ever expected they’d come here), of course I would have saved my code. But all I had to go on were those 13 cities, and my code seemed to be the only way to make this happen. I don’t know…I guess I just wish that if they weren’t going to renew codes, they would have said so, or posted the complete tour. I feel like I made a desperate choice on incomplete information, and now…I’m stuck with the knowledge of how good this could have been. It’s sad.

“Why are you reinstating Propaganda membership pre-sale codes but not reinstating U2.com subscription codes.”
First of all, ‘cheated U2 fan’, ‘we’ are not reinstating anything. ‘We’ are U2log.com, a fan made U2 site.
Secondly, this from U2.com’s recent announcement:
“There will be two separate presale periods open to U2.Com Subscribers, each lasting three days. One begins this next Tuesday, March 8th, one the following Tuesday, March 15th. The first day of each presale will only be open to former Propaganda subscribers. (Please check in the Subscribers area for information on which presales cover which shows).”
U2.com subscribers who haven’t bought tickets yet, will get their chance on March 15.

No, let’s not call it the smoothest presale ever.
As a Prop member since 2000, yet one who’s not on their list (!), I have no recourse and no ability to tell my side of the story. The new fan club is useless.
What kind of company who takes credit card memberships doesn’t keep tabs of who is their member? The whole transition was nonexistent for me, as I got nothing in the mail, email, etc despite being at the same address for over 2 more years.
And now I wait for 3 hours on hold only to get some guy who, because I am not on the list, cannot do anything. It’s like trying to sue the US government here. Pointless.
U2 got too big along the way. That’s the point. The last CD appeals to everyone because apparently everyone is now their fan.
This shit always ends the same way. It’s so lame.

I have been a Propaganda member since issue #2. When was that… 1986? I have moved house three times since then. Despite that, I kept receiving the magazine without problems and have remained in the system. I guess I was lucky.

Yeah, and it’s great that it boils down to luck. Well, it’s all right, I’ve got the Doves show to look forward to in 2 weeks. I’d rather see Some Cities live anyway versus HTDAAB, price differential or not.

I am sorry to see that some U2 fans can’t be happy that many of us got great tickets today. I got shut out of the first pre-sale the same way many other fans did. I was a Propaganda member, I am a U2.com member–my U2 fandom credentials are strong. I did everything I was supposed to and got no tickets for any of four shows in my hometown. The question that day was “does U2 know about this, and what will they do to address it?”
That question was answered today. Larry’s apology rings true given the ease with which we have gotten tickets, and many of us will enjoy shows from the floor, from seats, from the rafters–wherever we enjoy U2 the best.
To everybody who got tickets for Leg One/Leg Two–have great shows, I know Leg Three will be awesome for me.

Maybe that’s what really gets under my skin in the midst of my excitement for real fans getting the good seats; this idea of “fan credentials.” This division between people who were Prop subscribers and those of us who aren’t. For whatever reason, some of us didn’t subscribe to Prop…but we dished out our money for U2.com. I was too young to get into Propaganda…I was 6 when Caroline joined. I’m only 24, and this is the first time I’ve been gainfully employed and out on my own. I can afford fan club membership, I can afford going cross-country to see them. Me not being a Prop member has nothing to do with my loyalty or support of the band, and that’s what many people seem to be making of this. I understand the band came up with a way to make sure presale tickets get into the hands of fans instead of scalpers, and in doing so fulfilled an obligation from a cancelled Propaganda. But in doing so, a division has been drawn between two sets of the fan base, and many of us are stuck here thinking, “What did I do wrong?”

Wow, that’s a great point and a lot for me to think about.
All I meant to indicate was my devotion to this band and shock at knowing that I was not likely to see this tour. I think I revealed more than that in what I wrote.
That being said, the point I was hoping to make is that it’s great whenever U2 play live and the more people who get to see them, the better it is. I may have gotten shut out of Leg One, but some other people are going to have amazing nights–I wish them the best!

The thing is, Propaganda subscribers have always had fairly painless access to tickets through Prop’s mail order service. When Prop ended and membership was transfered to U2.com, Prop subscribers were told they would get priority booking, just like they were used to when the magazine was still published. When the first and second leg presales fiasco happened, Prop subscribers were extra sour, because of that earlier promise. U2 have now addressed that problem (though some subscribers are obviously still missing out due to badly kept membership records). I don’t see how that creates a division between fans. It’s kind of a first come, first serve deal, which seems fair to me.

Don’t get me wrong, I have *no* problem with seniority. I’m all for having a day for Prop subscribers, then a day for u2.com in order of membership. I’m sure many would disagree with me, however. Heck, I’d even be fine with that same system in future tours. And as for divisions, this site has been wonderfully civil. The u2.com boards, however, are vicious (part of the reason I finally stopped lurking and registered). I’m just in the group that used our code for nosebleeds, and wished we had known more about the third leg before deciding if it was worth it. That’s the only reason I wish I could have my code reactivated…so that after prop members get a crack, and U2.com members without tickets get a crack, I could check out what’s left before Mayhem Saturday hits. We all know what general sales are like…speaking of, anyone know what generally works better – phone, internet, or in person? I’ll wait all night at the Qwest Center if I have to, but if there’s another method that works better, I’d like to know. Seems I always have poor luck over ticketmaster.com.

As a former propoganda member, I have to say I was extremely pleased with how things went today. I got my Atlanta, Georgia tix very easy today. Kudos to U2 for making it right. Gonna hit the Cleveland show too. I do hope they play Crumbs. What a tremendous song.

With a message that says you’re a Propaganda member who subscribed in 2000 but didn’t get your U2.com Propaganda-member discount code and lost out on the presales. Maybe something can still be done tomorrow.
Indicate that you called Fanfire and were told that you “weren’t on the list”.
I was a Propaganda subscriber who never got the letter or a code. After calling I got nowhere. So I scoured as many U2 bbs’ as I could and found many posts of Propaganda members who didn’t receive their letter and code. Success stories came from these two addresses.
And hey, can anyone answer Bono_Freak? I too read the FAQ in last night’s Propaganda email to mean “one pair per venue” as opposed to “show”. So I ordered one pair of GAs for the MSG and another pair for Philly. I would have liked two MSG shows but it’s okay. At this point, I can’t complain. Now how do I still get tickets for the 1st leg….

I was a former prop member without an email or letter too. It didn’t bother me all that much until I found out former Prop members were getting a presale day all to themselves. I even joined u2.com at the $40 rate and didn’t bother pushing for the discount. At any rate…I called 1-800-615-1324 and they found my name on the Prop list (I had an address change since the last issue), reinstated my code for the 3rd leg, and gave me the $20 discount. Now I got two GA’s for MSG on Oct 10! If you were a former Prop member and a current u2.com member I would give that number a call!! You still have time for presale next week.

It’s interesting that already in ebay you can find U2 tickets for the third leg, quite expensive of course. Scalpers among some of the “old” U2 fans????

now i wish i had gotten the $40 membership before. how do you guys think the general sale will turnout? (i tried but i didnt even come close to getting tix thru TM for the 1st leg) anyway, i’m a little bit confused, can i try to buy 2 pairs of GA’s: one in philly and one @ MSG? i would much rather get msg, but i noticed philly goes on sale earlier and i should make an attempt on those first since i’ll be busy when the msg tickets go on sale (general public).

But Promo Bono’s over there behind the mountain of discarded U2.com keyrings, Elmo.

Some Prop members never had the full subscription filled as you signed up for 4 magazine releases and U2 might only put 2 out a year. I think had they not done something special for these fans they might have faced a lawsuit for not fullfilling subscription. SO they were right to do something special and LARRY took it to heart. BOno can save the world Larry saved U2.
Lets all wear I love Larry shirt to concerts…

As a follow-up to my earlier post, I wanted to say that I was able to purchase two GA tickets to the DC show this morning, as part of the “regular” U2.com member sale, and the entire process was remarkably smooth. Best of luck to everyone else, especially those who (like me) were “lost” Prop members!
I always thought there were two key problems with the first leg sales here in North America: not enough shows (the closest show to the entire southeast was Philadelphia) and not enough control over the distribution of tickets to fan club members (not enough tickets, no way to prioritize “old” members, poor communication, etc). The band and management really dropped the ball on that one, but they seem to have addressed both of those problems this time around and things are apparently going much smoother. (But…$22.30 in service fees on 2 tickets??? Oy.)

Never used my code until the general U2.com presale today. Rejected as “not being is system.”
Thanks U2! And the refund window is closed as well!

Never used my code until the general U2.com presale today. Rejected as “not being is system.”
Thanks U2! And the refund window is closed as well!
Hi all,
I’m de-lurking, finally, for a quick question and a warning for Canadian fans:
First, you should know that I’m Canadian, live in Canada, and have, as such, a Canadian address. Funny the way that works.
So I entered the pre-sale this morning with trepidation. Miraculously, there were still GA tix left for NYC. (Why am I buying tickets to NYC, you ask? Because I’m hoping to go to grad school there next fall. And I figure if I don’t get in, I can still take a fun trip. Of course, the flip side of this is, if I do get into grad school, and don’t have tickets for NYC, I can’t go anywhere else to see U2, because of all that silly tuition.) Anyway. I got GAs for the Friday night show and I was so, so happy. Then I tried to enter my billing info, only it wouldn’t let me… because I don’t have a US billing address.
I eventually figured out that you could buy through ticketmaster.ca, only by that time, no GAs left. I am currently ticketless. I’m going to try for the Toronto show, and if I go to grad school, give the tickets to friends as their wedding present, and just… not see U2, I guess.
So: my question to you folk: I can’t figure out who to get in touch with at u2.com to tell them about this. I don’t want to complain to them or give them any grief (my anger I reserve for TM, since this is their ridiculous billing system’s fault… I mean, what? Canadian money isn’t worth anything to them? Okay, fine, the dollar’s low, but still…). I just thought that maybe the u2.com folk could warn the Canadian fans about this. What if, for example, next week, when the Toronto and Ottawa shows go on sale, people try and get through the u2.com-provided links, and can’t buy because of their credit cards? How heartbreaking and messy will that be?
Anyway… anyone know? Also, if anyone reading this has Canadian friends, maybe pass on the warning?
Thanks. I love this site, btw.

Anyone have presale access that wants to help a fellow U2 fan get 2 tickets?

Long-time reader/lurker. This is my first post here.
>>It’s interesting that already in ebay you can find U2 tickets for the third leg, quite expensive of course. Scalpers among some of the “old” U2 fans????<<
Tickets for the Houston gig appear at stubhub.com already. I was asking myself the same question.
I’ve been a fan for longer than I care to admit, but I have never had the chance to see U2 in concert before. I’m hoping to make that Houston gig (or perhaps Dallas)somehow – I may have to hock my kid’s college fund to get in.
Thanks for listening.

Why would you say “afraid to admit” that you are a long time fan? Man, I’m psyched to say I saw those four lads from Dublin enter a club in New Haven CT 1980 at “Toads Place” and dominate. From club dates to the greatest rock band ever…period~

It’s not a matter of being afraid to admit, just not caring to. I’d give away my age, and then you know how women-folk are about that! (it was supposed to be a joke…)
And I agree with you – they are the greatest ever!

All I have to say is: Wow.
Just got an email…my code will be reactivated for a special presale for members who used their code “for tickets that might not have been as good as they hoped.” Or something like that. My wish came true! After Prop members, after members with an unused code, we get a go after all! Umm…I love my band 🙂

I’m really bummed. I’ve written U2.com numerous times, but get no response. I joined Propaganda a year before ATYCLB came out. I got the last two issues and even a human response back when I moved two blocks down the street.
According to the terms, I was supposed to get four issues, which never happened since I got the last two ever created. I never got the discount access to U2.com and didn’t get the Propaganda pre-sale either. Plus nobody will address this. They took my money without any problems though. 🙂 Anyway, I paid the full $ value for U2.com membership, but I feel screwed. Perhaps I’m the minority, but it can’t be that hard to fix my problem.

I’m in the same boat Samit, Except I only recieved ONE issue and I was so pissed about the whole thing I refused to register for U2.com membership. Now I’m doulbe screwed because I don’t get the presale either way. Looks like I’m standing in line with the rest of the world.

I tried buying tickets online on Saturday morning for the Dallas show. By 10:02AM the site was returning a sold out message. 2 minutes. Unbelievable.
At 10:10AM I did a google search of “U2 Tickets”. Amazing. Hundreds of websites had tickets for the very same Dallas show that I could not get tickets for. They even listed what row & section the tickets were in.
So, how is it that ticket brokers always get such wonderful tickets, yet the public can’t get em ?
There is something very wrong with this.

hi all, I made a log of my experience, for fun. I’m from Ottawa, ON. enjoy!
My “U2//Vertigo//2005 Tour” ticket-buying experience
Busy lines, downed servers, but this U2 fan’s friend came through!
VERTIGO! UP HIGH, higher than the sun, but U2 fans, I’ve got Elevation–yup, elevation to the nosebleeds.
But I almost didn’t make it–I gotta say, I’m not a big fan of the Capital Tickets server. But in all fairness, I’m sure I was one of thousands of Ottawa U2 fans and our all-out assault on the server and the phone lines. Not to mention hundreds lining up at Sports Experts locations.
I eagerly set my alarm clock the night before, for 9:20 am, and I’m out of bed on Saturday morning before the second snooze (that’s got to be a personal record).
I made some notes of my experience…and here they are. Enjoy.
9:39 a.m. Got some coffee. Dad left some for me! Excellent, didn’t have to waste time making some before the 10:00 am onsale.
9:45. Logged onto MSN Messenger, and got a message from a friend, Andrea, who asked if I was buying tickets. Yup.
9:57. The Capital Tickets website goes down on the Internet Explorer window I have open. I have U2’s latest album, How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb, playing. I hope I won’t be mad enough to dismantle something, like my sanity.
10:05. After futile attempts for the first five minutes on the site and phone, I begin using my cellphone as well.
10:08. Due to heavy traffic on the website, the site displays a 60-second countdown after which it will refresh and try again. Get used to it.
10:09. The third of many countdowns begins.
10:11. Still no dice, while working the home phone, cell, and website.
10:13. My friend, Eric, through MSN, relays a rumour from a friend of his in line at the Rideau Centre that all the general admission (floor) seats are already gone. Wow.
10:15. I have two windows open with countdowns going.
10:19. Still nothing. One window shows the server down, the other is still working. I figure Dalton McGuinty will keep a promise before I get any tickets.
10:23. Capital Tickets website message relays technical difficulties. No surprise there.
10:24. My coffee is cold. Andrea tells me she has 10 countdowns going and she’s working two phones, tag team-style, with her boyfriend. Nothing.
10:33. I begin playing All That You Can’t Leave Behind. I hope there’s some tickets left behind for me.
10:36. My friend Joe relays a message, “the site is totally overloaded.” Eric tells me “I’m in!” and “The site is totally blowing chunks.” It’s blown more chunks than the Sens blowing chances in the first round of the playoffs.
10:39. “Stuck in a Moment You Can’t Get Out Of” is playing. Ain’t that the truth.
10:40. Eric’s in! He has offered to try and get tickets for me. He says the best left is in the 300 level…and then his browser crashed. I’m stuck deciding whether to bang my head on my desk, or continue to hold out hope. I opt for the latter.
10:43. Eric: “Dude, I’m back in!”
10:44. Eric. “This is ridiculous.” I compare all of us fans trying to get in to trying to send snakes up a down escalator.
10:49. Eric manages to make it to the purchase page. Best left is four standing room tickets in section 318. I tell him to “DO it.” Starsky and Hutch-style.
10:51. He’s got em. $243.80 is the damage. I offer two to Andrea. She accepts. Meanwhile we keep trying. So is the guy who’s been trying to catch the Polkaroo, but he missed him again.
11:00. Family gets home. I tell them what I’ve been doing. They think I’m insane.
11:03. Still working both phones and the site, in a futile attempt to get more tickets.
11:08. Andrea: “Holy shit! Every browser is in!”
11:17. Andrea then says it’s not working because her cookies are not set properly. She tries to fix them and it still won’t work. The Cookie Monster laughs while holding his floor tickets.
11:22. After more countdowns than Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve, my browser tells me only single seats are left for this rockin’ show.
11:27. Andrea “K, I’m gonna give up now.” Good idea.
12:16. Concert is sold out. Unlucky U2 fans from Kanata to Cumberland plan a Blitzkrieg, with the Corel Centre in their crosshairs (perhaps).
So that was my experience. I never actually got through, but Eric came through, and he’s the man! Cheers to Eric!

I have been a loyal U2 fan forever! I have tried to get tickets to the April shows in Ca. with no success. I woke up early and waited for the sale to start for the tickets for Novemeber. They will not sell tickets to anyone who is not a family member or some big company who wants to resell their tickets for $800. each! I am fed up with it and give up! I don’t want your tickets now or ever. I hope they end up playing in some small dive pub in the middle of nowhere and no one shows up!!
