Hello, hello! The guys at the @U2 blog report that U2 played Vertigo TWICE at tonight’s concert in Seattle. Instead of bowing out with ’40’, as they have been doing so far on this tour, they repeated their hit single, as if they were a young band on their first tour and ran out of songs to play. How. very. odd.
Update: reader Shaun suggests they may have been filming the song for their Good Morning, America appearance.
I remember seeing them in early 80’s and they played 11 oclock tick toc 2 times……

Tickets weren’t $175 in the early 80’s.

They forgot they had played it already. That’s what happens when you get up in the years.

True enough … but in the 80’s tickets weren’t $175. It would have been nice to hear a different tune.

Vertigo isn’t even a particularly good song, comparatively speaking. I’d be absolutely gutted if I didn’t hear them play 40.

They could have played All Because Of You (alternate version) or Xanax and Wine instead of Vertigo…

they didnt play covers back then either. I would be bummed not hearing 40 after all these years as well. Should have done 40 after vertigo.

They played Vertigo twice under the Brooklyn bridge. “This one’s for us.”

It was awesome!!!
They kicked seattles butt last night.
I totally dig the 2nd night setlist better then the 1st.
I was at the show and the fans LOVED vertigo as the ending.

At last night’s concert, my first U2 experience, I wanted to hear ’40’ (and expected it, from what I had read in blogs) so I felt disappointed. But it was still fun. If I remember correctly, before going into the Vertigo finale, Bono declared an “English lesson”…giving the (supposed?) etymological root of “encore” and then defining the word as “playing the same f—— song again!”

This concert was WAY better than Anaheim 1 which I was also at. It was very cool seeing Vertigo twice, BUT they difinately should have played 40 also. We all expected them to, lights stayed off and no one left, just like in Anaheim, and the guys didn’t come back out. But of course the real highlight was BAD….
Also, Bono did the Zoo TV walk at the beginning of Zoo Station.

You know you’re way too old and grumpy when you complain about shit like this. It’s definitely a case of “out of touch with rock and roll” when you think you’re paying for a concert by the song or some such nonsense. Suck it up, people. This is rock and roll, not a trip to Denny’s where you didn’t get as much maple syrup for your waffles as you’d hoped.

I think they should play Crumbs somewhere in there…
I mean Vertigo is a great song… but i mean comparing to other songs… just not up there.

Whine, gripe, moan.
If any of you feel ripped off, I’ll gladly buy your tickets to future shows.
