Who would have thought the first weblog to come from the U2 camp is one by the tour’s truck drivers and electricians? Well, here it is and they’re calling it ‘My Gennyration, News from the Generator World on the European leg of the U2 Vertigo World Tour.’
Hosted at Blogspot.com (Why isn’t this on U2.com? In fact, why isn’t there any kind of blog on U2.com?), the posts feature pictures and updates on life on the road with U2, like this one from Vienna:
“Gennyworld had the night off last night and we went out and feasted on Pig’s Knuckles, a delicacy around these parts apparantly!”
Their comment boxes are a little empty… so why not go and encourage the lads (and lasses?) Y’all behave now. (via)
Well wouldn’t Willie’s Diary be considered a sort blog of sorts?

I’d consider it much more a diary than a blog. And it’s restricted to members.
U2’s news page is a bit like a blog in that it is updated regularly, has got links to outside sources and uses a ‘personal’ voice. But we don’t really ‘know’ the people behind it. That’s always struck me as odd: someone talking to you in a chummy way, when they’re not actually visible and they don’t really interact with the readers.

While we’re at it, why isn’t there an RSS News feed on U2.com?

Probably because like most commercial operations, decision makers think it’s about getting pageviews on the site rather than serving the customer.
