Curtain call: ArenA getting ready for a shoot?

Eagle-eyed reader u2boy draws our attention to an unexpected addition to the stage set up at the Amsterdam ArenA. A black curtain has been hung behind the stage. Are U2 gearing up to film their three shows in the Dutch capital? Another reader claims to have seen director Hamish Hamilton (Boston and Slane DVDs) at the Paris shows. Let the speculation begin.

  1. I can confirm: they’re gonna make a DVD of an Amsterdam show. I know this from a long time, because I know people of the organisation.

If the band doesn’t like the shooting of these shows, they will shoot in Spain or Portugal.

  5. O yes yes yes!! I always thought ‘U2 live in Amsterdam’ was a great title for a live DVD! PLEASE let this be true. With 3 nights in the Arena, there’s every chance this is going to be a succes. I’ll tell you all in advance: When you are looking at this DVD when it is finished, I am the one in the crowd with the BIG euphoric grin on his face! *must stop now, I’m heading for Amsterdam in a few minutes, see you all there!*

  7. I think because the time they will start the concert, round about eight, yes earlier then other concerts, there is too much light… (I’ll hope this is not the reason of course).

  11. These backdrops are not from Sensation U2Roeli… These backdrops have only been used 2 times; for Metallica and the Rolling Stones… The Rolling Stones hรกve filmed for a DVD in the Arena (the wide angle shots on Forty Licks DVD) and Metallica has taped the show aswell…

For me it’s clear, as there are also multiple camera’s on various positions spotted in the Arena…

    Amterdam will get filmed!

  15. Someone tell hamish to ease up on the Camera changes. He switches so often that instead of making the camera transparent, you notice how annoying it is. Do what scorcesse did for the last waltz and let the music/band shine, not your flashey camera work.

  17. The curtain was also used at the David Bowie concert in 2004, which was not recorded to become a dvd. So the curtain doesn’t automaticly mean that it will be recorded for a DVD, but it would be very very very nice and cool ๐Ÿ™‚

  19. No soundcheck from the band members. That means they won’t see and “test” the stadium before the actual gig. That means NO shoot tonight. There’s no preparation at all. No warning signs in the stadium that your image can be used for a DVD.

Please stop presenting rumors as a fact about DVD shoot in A’dam. At least for today. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  23. Bloc dude, i ABSOLUTELY agree. i hate the ultra closeups and camera changes. i feel like i’m suffering vertigo. (please no one respond with how that’s some great pun). i mean it’s okay for a song or two but it’s just hard to watch for like 2hrs. it’s kinda why i like the zootv in sydney tape the best even though the quality isn’t as good. i just like watching them play. if anyone is a hockey fan they can also appreciate the difference between the network tv coverage which has closeups of guys skating (where you have no idea where they are on the ice) versus cable which tends to use the much more enjoyable wide-angled shots.

ok i am done typing now.

  25. @Tingley: I didn’t say Willie said “Amsterdam shoot”, he said “a shoot”. At least the sound in the Arena was in 5.1 tonight, coming from just about every angle…

  27. @U2Roeli: “Willie all but saidโ€ฆ” means he didn’t say it, but it was almost certainly what he meant (since Amsterdam was next.)
