From Copenhagen we just received the very good news that our old friend (and long time U2log.com commenter) ‘flygirl’ made it on to the stage to dance with Bono during All I Want Is You. We can reveal to you that flygirl is NOT Danish and will have towered over Mr B. by a good few inches. It’s her birthday today as well.
We wish we were there to celebrate with her. Congrats to W & J from all of us here at U2log.com.
… just in: she says she’s ‘speechless’. Meanwhile, it is pissing down in Copenhagen, and Bono’s put on a rain jacket. That’s a first.
Awesome gig once again, even after all the hassle I had to put up with over the day (long story, but it was a first for me to be physically assaulted by 6 security style kind of people).
It was sunny all day, but just before the support band Soundtrack of Our Lives were ready to go, it started pissing down. And not a little bit either. The rain was relentless. Of course, all that added to the atmosphere and the crowd reached a point where nothing matters anymore. I was absolutely freezing, catching raindrops in my hand, and squeezing my shirt dry.
Seeing flygirl go up on the stage was awesome, but there were some other odd things going on too. Like some guy jumping on the stage and being divebombed off by one of the band security guys after he refused to leave in a normal kind of fashion.
Or Bono being offered an umbrella by Phil Docherty, but refusing it, preferring to suffer the same fate as about 50k fans.
Small little snippets all over the place and of course Bono going on about Edge being from the future as well. Went something like “A journalist asked Edge what he’d do with his spare time in Copenhagen, and Edge said ‘drink hard'” apparently Edge has been to the future and saw there that everyone drinks fruit tea… “You’ve got some really funky shit here”. Something to that effect anyway.
The most interesting thing was the very very late start of the show and consequently, the very late finish. The concert ran well after midnight, and everyone left completely soaked, but happily.
After about 6 weeks of travelling in between bits of work, my U2 trip has come to an end, and that does stucks just a little.

I thought I read at U2tour.de that he *did* have an umber-bleedin-rella (as they say as Gaeilge) during Zoo Station, or is that not right?

That is right Caroline, he did have an umbrella during Zoo Station. Also he mentioned Helena Christensen during Ms. Sarajevo, and apparantly thanked Torben Ullrich (!?), Lars Ulrichs ( danish drummer in Metallica) father along with some others towards the end of the show.

Ah Denmark. It’s like Miami in the rain.
(Don’t mind me, I’m channeling someone.)

He did have it briefly for Zoo Station yeah, but only so he could look smug at us. He had refused it earlier, but did give Phil a huge for the thought :-]

Hi! Or should I say: High! Jeez, what a weird thing to happen to me, I still can’t believe it. Best birthday ever, though! I really can’t remember everything that happened, you sort of get in a trance when you’re up on that stage, or at least I did when I realized that 50 00 people were watching me. Scary stuff! But Bono really has you in a tight hug, and the most unbelievable thing is that you actually hear him sing, not through the PA but in your ear. That was really cool. A lot of people asked me if I was nervous, but I wasn’t (apart from a few ‘I hope I don’t fall down or lose my pants’-thoughts, I’m amazingly clumsy). I really thought it was fun, and funny that he picked me, I am hardly a petite dark-haired young beauty. Then again, there have been so many references to him always choosing the little ladies (‘dance with me, I’m short/even shorter!’), he might have been a bit fed up. Good for him! Then I took off my raincoat and he put it on, and I’m still glad he gave it back to me, it was pouring by the end of the night and that little piece of plastic saved me from getting totally soaked. It was a good night. A very good night!

Huge hug :-]
I didn’t recognise flygirl right away, and thought to myself “Whoa, he picked a really tall girl tonight…” and it only then sunk in :-] Incredible after all the shit we were given upon entry, but maybe it was all about karma π
Rain was absolutely torrential. Adam wasn’t stamping any puddles tonight, but it was bouncing of his shoulder. Also caught him singing along earlier! Very singing in the rain :-] Bono sang a snippet of that too by the way. He also commented on Rachel/tattoo woman’s wellies and raincoat, by saying “Cool raingear” which cracked me up, as well as seeing all the band security wearing those 20p flimsy plastic raincoats. They all looked miserable π
Very commendable that the band put up a full show tonight, despite the torrentials. Another awkward detail was that they had what I think the latest start of the tour at 9:45, which means it didn’t end until well after midnight.
So, uhm, anyone have a spare Lisbon ticket?

Thanks for a great log. I have been following it prior to the concert in Cph.
Enclosed homepage has a video clip from the first numbers. Thought you might wanted to see that.

A great show again in Copenhagen. Four seasons in one day, as Bono said. During Electric Co. Bono asked the photographers to join him on stage and after he had given them the opportunity to shoot their best pictures ever he just told them: “NOW F*CK OFF!”.
Nice snippets, many thanks and kind words during the whole show. And at the end Bono said something like: “We know there’s a lot of people who travelled a long distance to see us here tonight”. I’d like to believe that he was refering to the Dutch, who were well represented (as usual).
By the way Flygirl, I’ve got some great pictures of you and Bono. Check your e-mail tonight and perhaps then your memory comes back!

2 Days gone, and I still feel cold. Bloody hell :-] And where was our Electrical Storm? We earned the right to that! π
Not sure if he was referring to the Dutch… probably more to Sean Penn, who went to see them… again. Bleedin’ groupie.

It Γs cold and I now hΓ‘ve a cold as well, I’m sneezing my ass off, π Bloody scandinavian weather. Hope I didn’t infect anybody important, ahahaha π
Debster, you’re a saint, I can’t wait! Although I always look like a complete idiot in photographs, this will be no exception I’m sure. O well, who cares, I’ve been within inches of Sean Penn Γ‘nd hugged and kissed Bono in one (birth)day, it’s a miracle I still know my own name! (Er..what was it again? Wanda?)

Imagine how much aftershave he must have used to still smell like it after running around the stage like a madman in the pouring rain :-]
What aftershave does he use then? π

I really don’t know. I’m watching the news, are you watching the news? Apparently, an Air France plane sort of crashed at landing at Toronto Airport an burst into flames. It looks really bad. I’m always thinking of my collegues and their passengers when shit like this happens, you know, I hope they’re allright. They have a good chance I think, crashing at landing is always better then at the start. Less kerosine.

Read it. They’re reporting no deaths though, only a couple of minor injuries.

They’re all alive and relatively well. Phew. Sorry for the off topic comment (sort of, this is after all called ‘come fly with me’) π

Missed all that, was playing tennis tonight (to get really off topic). First satisfying training of the season, too.
