Yes, we’re terribly sorry about the delay, but we had to wait for President Bush to accept foreign aid. Unfortunately, he was ‘on vacation’. We tried contacting Ms Rice, but apparently she was ‘out shopping’.

The delay from the U.S. government is ridiculous. In fact, all officials and media were slow at grasping the scope of the devastation. Sure, they did their requisite snazzy “Hurricane Katrina 2005: Horror in The Big Easy” stories hours after it blew through. But the lack of true understanding was not felt until about 48 hours after the storm. Two days of suffering with no food and water, but gallons of murky, oil-ridden water around them.
The delay leaves me grasping for answers and explanations, wanting to give the benefit of the doubt to someone but finding no one.
On a positive note, relief from civilians was very quick and the Red Cross states that it has raised at least $90 million USD. At least most of our country is sane, even if our government isn’t. Where’s Bono to offer a loving yet strong swat on the hand to our officials?

Wow, only four days later! keep up the good work!
