U2 kicked off the third leg of the Vertigo tour with the first of four shows in Toronto on Monday night. This was their set:
Vertigo / I will follow / Electric Co / Elevation / Beautiful Day / In a little while / Still haven’t found what I’m looking for / City of Blinding Lights / Miracle Drug / Sometimes you can’t make it on your own / Love & Peace or else / Sunday Bloody Sunday / Bullet the Blue Sky / Miss Sarajevo / Pride (in the name of love) / Where the streets have no name / One / Zoo Station / The Fly / With or Without You / All because of you / Fast Cars / Yahweh / 40
u2tours.com reports a snippet of Ol’ man river (Hammerstein/Kern, made famous by Paul Robeson in the movie Show boat) after One. There’s a longer report at U2.com.
Oh my god, they changed the setlist! 😛

Damn. Fast Cars at last…
Damn. Fast Cars at last…
Surprised they didn’t play the Sunday Bloody Sunday / Bullet combination.
Was Fast Cars ‘full band’ or just bono and edge??

Fast Cars was full band. I was there last night, and although I loved that they played that song, the audience, which was entirely enthusiastic the whole night, sat stone-faced through the whole thing. No one clapped, no one danced. U2 could have been Dashboard Confessional (the opening band) for all intents and purposes. It was disappointing.
And coming from a longtime U2 fan, the show overall was disappointing. Yes, the crowd was REALLY into the show, but if I have to hear Pride or One again, I’ll be really disappointed. Wasn’t it Larry that famously said in 1989 that he didn’t want U2 to become a “greatest hits” band (or something like that)? Well, they’ve done it.

I have to say that the show was outstanding, the crowd was GREAT, really really enthusiastic, everyone dancing and havin a good time. Where i was sitting EVERYONE was dancing and jumping up and down. Bono’s vocals seemed really good too, and the edge totally rocked it, great sound!. It was nice to see larry singing along with bono as well i thought that was cool. i have to say that was a great show!

They did play SBS before Bullet last night. Can’t believe they did Fast Cars! Especially since it’s only on the Collectors Edition HTDAAB on this side of the pond… Really hoping they will keep it (and Miss Sarajevo) in through the NY shows.

Was In A Little While full band, just like Elevation Tour?

Ah, so they did play SBS/Bullet.. the setlist has been corrected. 8 songs from the new album.. not really greatest hits if you ask me!

Well, ‘greatest hits’ or not: these hits are widely spread over time and albums. 8 songs off the last album. Two rare songs and two songs from the fitrst two or three albums each night. Pretty unique I guess…
