U2 favor sportswear in Beantown

Honoring the “When in Rome…” expression, U2 made like Bostonians and showed their love of sports with sporty wardrobe choices at the band’s two concerts in Boston this week. At their Oct. 3 show, Bono donned a Boston Red Sox jersey, and on Oct. 4, Edge sported an Irish football shirt.

It makes us wonder what wardrobe choices they’ll make to honor New York City. The “Discotheque” video outfits?

  1. Discoteque would be nice to hear. I can’t wait to see them in 2 weeks! Maybe bostonians should be called “Bono-ites” 🙂

  3. I was not pleased at all with Bono and Larry’s choice of sports attire, but I am confident that The Edge will be sporting something with the Yankees logo this coming week. 😉

  9. I was at both Boston shows and thought they were great. The first night did seem to be the better of the two.

One thing I noticed that was REALLY disappointing was Bono’s use of a teleprompter for the entire show. I don’t mind so much using this to remember the lyrics….but he was also reading from the teleprompter for those in-between song blurbs…which IU’ve always loved…but now it seemed far more contrived. Pretty disappointing indeed.

  11. Woops. Sorry for the delay in approving comments guys (and girls!) Most of our staff have gone NYC bound, I had a wonderful two days in London myself, and the rest of the team have gone MIA.

During the previous US leg there were people who claimed your chances of scanning into the oval/circle/egg/whatever actually improved a while after the doors opened, and was down for people who rushed straight in or queued from early on. Don’t know if that still holds.

As for soundchecks. Here in Europe they didn’t play soundchecks at all the gigs. Often it was just the techies and they usually wrapped up just before the doors opened.

  13. The guy who brought the Irish soccer jersey that Edge wore onstage was standing behind and to the left of us. My friend Matty managed to get Edge’s attention as a girl at the railing waved the jersey in front of him. I thought the guy was going to pass out when Edge put it on. It was pretty cool.

As for meeting the boys prior to the show. They did come out around 3:30pm (10/4)for a brief meet and greet with the fans. Larry was the only one not in attendance. From what we were told, they did not come out the day before, so it just may be something they do at the last day of a stop. Boston fans take note…12/5 is there last show at their home away from home!
