It seems the Grammy people have figured out that the quickest way to get Bono to the stage at tonight’s Grammy Awards ceremony is to put him in the aisle seat, where there will be fewer people to climb over and kiss on his way to the podium. With U2 up for five awards, Bono is sure to make a few trips to the stage — well, at least we’re rooting that he and his bandmates will. In addition to (hopefully) picking up some golden gramophone statuettes tonight, U2 will be performing “One” with Mary J. Blige. The Edge will also be a part of a musical tribute honoring New Orleans and Southern music with an “all-star supergroup” that includes Bruce Springsteen and Elvis Costello.

I believe the word is that they are playing two…the second being – Vertigo. (g)

“One” is the only song they’re confirmed to perform. They are expected to perform a second song, but what song that will be is under question. According to reports, they rehearsed a number of songs yesterday.

They’ll play a bit of Vertigo followed by One with MJ. Ho hum.

I was thinking that one of the two songs that are nominated for awards (“Sometimes” and “City of Blinding Lights”) would be the likely second song performance. U2.com alluded to something special happening at the ceremony, so perhaps U2 have a medley or a surprise song prepared for us. Whatever the case, I anticipate that I will be pleased with U2’s performance tonight. U2 don’t disappoint me.

Yes, SYCMIOYO is my thought and hope…i love when B can show the God given, from soul to soul opera gift his dad passed to him.
also in follow up to the pic, the fact that paul is on the outside of paul/bono closer to the aisle may mean the nod for aoty…we’ll see.
I’m thinking grammy goes to U2 for soty and steve for production.

They definitely will not play SYCMIOYO as they played that at last year’s Grammy. My bet is on either Vertigo or COBL. Its a given that they will be playing ONE with Mary J. Blige.

Ugh. “One” is becoming U2’s “Satisfaction” or “Let It Be.” The tired old favorite that gets trotted out at every major event where a band member is performing.

U2 performed “Sometimes” last year, so I hope they play City of Blinding Lights- it’s too bad Madonna and Gorillaz are opening up- I think that would be a better selection-no?

I’ve heard that the front-and-aisle seat is like a place of honor. U2 sat in the front in 2002. I remember that becuase Ray Romano gave Edge a free day at the spa.

of course, you all know by now (hopefully) that the reason they played ONE was because MJB covered the song on her album. That was her performance slot.
