I think he wants the reader to infer that Bono made lifestyle changes every time he accepted a new identity. (For example, becoming a rock star meant touring, recording, dealing with fans, etc, all of which are behaviors that he might have avoided doing if he wanted people to see him as a “regular guy”.) You’re right though, he didn’t support his argument with examples. I’m guessing you’ve written a lot of term papers recently. 🙂
