U2 announces new album ‘No Line on the Horizon’

Mark your calendars! U2.com reports that ‘No Line on the Horizon’, the new studio album from U2, will be released on Monday 2nd March, 2009.

They write:

Written and recorded in various locations, No Line On The Horizon is the group’s 12th studio album and is their first release since the 9 million selling album How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb, released in late 2004.

Sessions for No Line On The Horizon began last year in Fez, Morocco, continued in the band’s own studio in Dublin, before moving to New York’s Platinum Sound Recording Studios, and finally being completed at Olympic Studios in London.

The album calls on the production talents of long-time collaborators Brian Eno and Danny Lanois, with additional production by Steve Lillywhite.

Billboard runs the story and has a quote from a ‘source’ who heard songs in their early forms: “…amazing and a little out there. I hope they don’t change anything.” (Read more.)

  1. Finally. Just curious when the tour is going to start. Last time they released an album early in the year was Pop (March 1997), they kicked off PopMart at the end of April. That just sounds unlikely this time for me. Have the feeling they’ll hit USA stadiums in June/July and head straight to Europe then. Or?

  3. Hallelujah! Nice to hear the album is more adventurous as well. I love ATYCLB, but HTDAAB is an odd one. I like most of the songs on their own (Vertigo, COBL), but when I listen to the whole album, it just leaves me feeling underwhelmed. I think Bono once said the same thing? But HTDAAB was a necessary album imo — they had to be a little predictable again, nuts and bolts rock and roll, in order to go wild on the next album. It seems to be how U2 works. During ZooTV, Bono said that he likes the mischief, but prefers the mystery when it comes to women, and that’s how rock ‘n’ roll should be. That’s how I feel about U2, that is when they’re at their best — the right balance of mischief and mystery.

  7. Um, I wouldn’t put any stock in those dates nikola, when the UK and Ireland are pretty much the only countries on that list with single dates (particularly the UK) for a U2 tour, you know it is false… Hurrah for the new album! U2.com is promising new video “in a few days”, single maybe?
