Part 2 of Sean O’Hagan’s U2 video diary

Having started his journey in Fez, Sean O’Hagan’s video diary now captures the band in recording sessions in Dublin, London and New York.

In the interview published alongside the video, Bono mentions U2’s intention to release another album this year. Earlier interviews had already hinted at a dusk/dawn type of album combo.

The future is another question for another interview. How long can U2 stay meaningful? Where will rock’s greatest adventure end? For now, there is enough material left over from the sessions for an album that, Bono says, will be released before the end of the year. It will be “a more meditative album on the theme of pilgrimage”.

  1. Great news. I’m really lookingforward for their more experimental side.

Looks like they decided to divide their material into two albums instead of one: NLOTH will be the U2 album with a twist and the second one something else (Achtung Baby/Zooropa stylewise).

  3. The media (and many U2 fans) make a big song and dance about Bono’s charity work affecting the band. They love to make it out as though there’s a big rift between Larry and Bono. So I’m constantly bemused by the fact that when Larry says the opposite in interviews, it’s never made into a headline, and the Bono-hating U2 fans never mention it. In this article alone (as there has been over the years) there are several quotes by Larry making it very clear there’s no problem with Bono’s work outside U2.

    1. “There is a danger that people start to perceive U2 as a part of the Bono show. Now, I admire and support everything he does, but that is categorically not the case.”

    2. “I can tell you categorically that all the other stuff is not affecting his work. He has boxes of lyrics, great lyrics.”

    3. “Well , when you are four guys working together and one of them is away a lot, you miss that chemistry, and you miss his input. But there’s no sour grapes there. We get on with it. We work, you know, U2 works.”

I just wanted to rub this in the faces of the sensationalist tabloid media, and the U2 fans who really don’t have a clue.
