Night three of the 360° tour and the first of two dates in Milan’s San Siro stadium the home of A.C. Milan and F.C. Internazionale Milano. The band rehearsed Magnificent, City of Blinding Lights, I still haven’t found, I’ll go crazy (remix) in the afternoon. The people living around San Siro wanted a 70 dB noise limit for the concert, but the mayor rejected their request.

Well, I guess the Crazy remix isn’t going away any time soon. Put Bad in that spot for crying out loud and drop the silly version of that song.

Crazy Tonight = The “regular” version was sounding so nice in all those live TV performances … from I’ve heard/seen in the various videos online, the “remix” sounds a bit messy.
Speaking of the setlists, anyone have insight as to why “Drowning Man” has been omitted? The rehearsal sound clips were pretty nice.

Starting to look like Drowning Man has suffered the fate of So Cruel which sounded brilliant rehearsed in ’92 only to never get the full band treatment. As for Crazy – totally agree, it was sounded great on the pre tour appearances – plus its the new single, makes little sense that they’re not playing it “regular” version. Definitely disappointed in the setlist tonight. Almost a carbon copy of night 1 – just added Party Girl. But I hold judgment until after Milan 2 to see just how static the setlist is going to be.

Elvis,
I couldn’t agree more. Crazy sounded fine in the promo shows. This just sounds like a mess. There really is no hope for it.
As far as Drowning Man? Excellent question.
And why do they refuse to keep Bad in as a setlist regular?
Otherwise, I think the tour is off to a pretty great start. Can’t wait to take it all in with my own eyes.

I like the remix version and I hope they keep it at least in Europe (though B needs to work on his vocals for that), but then I never liked the original all that much. It’s a bit of a concession to those of us actually liked the Pop era.
As for Drowning Man, I would think it’s hard to find a spot for it in the set. It’s beautiful, but could suck the energy out of the show.
I think they’ve done more than ever to mix up their setlist and to expect them to ‘surprise’ you every night (when there’s no surprising any more with all the live blogging, streaming, etc) is asking a bit much.

I hate to say it – but most of those tour shirts are lame. U2 has not such a great record when it comes to some of their tour merchandise. Some of it it is good from time to time, but a lot of it leaves a lot to be desired

The band usually holds back a debut until a couple of weeks after the tour starts, once the global spotlight is off a bit – on the past couple of tours, San Jose seemed to be the place for that debut – Kite during Elevation, and OOTS during Vertigo. Perhaps they are doing the same with Drowning Man, although which city will play the San Jose role is up for debate, I’d say Nice, Amsterdam or Dublin (give the hometown crowd a debut).

The ‘disco’ version of ‘Crazy’ is the single-worst moment in any U2 show ever. Completely ruins the show for me so far. I can’t believe they’re even attempting to play it that way. It’s awful. Bono is shouting, and Larry must feel like a complete douche out there walking around with those bongos. Horrible, horrible, horrible. Biggest mistake in U2’s touring history. Sorry gang.

i think the crazy mix is silly, but not exactly something that will change my opinion of an entire show. Having said that – I haven’t gone to a show, wo who am I to judge a song I’ve only experienced through my computer(?)
I have a sneaky feeling its not as bad as it appears from here ( or am I just hoping? )

The Crazy Remix? One of the high points of both shows I’ve seen so far. Yes – it appears to sound like crap in the recordings i’ve heard, but visually? it’s loads of fun. the entire band is moving around the stages. the crowd really gets into it. it’s just brilliant fun. i loved it. it’s left the song in my head a week after the shows. definitely one of the high points for me…

Sorry Aaron … I could care less about them ‘moving around the stages.’ This is U2. And with U2 it’s all about the music. Period. They must stop playing that version NOW. It is garbage and borderline embarrassing. True fans (the people, like me, following them around since the 80s) agree.

Apparantly, Jay speaks for all 80s U2 fans here now…Did you even go to the concerts yet?

Oh wow. So I’m not a true fan? i’m not even going to justify that comment with a reply. but i will say i attended the shows in Barcelona with a group of long time fans, who have seen them live hundreds of times if you combine everyone’s tallys. And the general agreement was that the remix of “Crazy” was a high point of the show for almost all of us.

‘True fan’ bollocks is the Godwin’s law of music fandom.
Jay, your tone here in the last couple of weeks has been very unpleasant. Continue like that and you’ll find yourself no longer welcome on our site.
