Soon in a box set near you

‘ Soon’ a.k.a. ‘ Kingdom of your love’, comes as a 7″ with the limited edition Super Deluxe version of the U2 360 Live at the Rosebowl DVD. The band used it as the intro track to the show.

  1. Soon is only a 2 minute song or is this an edit? Love the photo cover. I’d happily drop half a dozen songs from NLOTH, add Soon, and make it an EP with that cover.

  3. Actually, if you drop “Crazy,” “Boots” & “Stand Up Comedy,” put this and “Winter” in and you’d have a real top-to-bottom ALBUM that sustains a mood.

  5. I suspect it’d be the half dozen you like, John. 😉
I can’t be the only U2 fan in the world who wasn’t enamoured by NLOTH’s 5-star reviews? Suddenly I feel like that guy who kept saying Pop is U2’s best ever album all those years ago (which is weird, because I couldn’t get into it back then, but now I listen to it a lot… maybe MLOTH will be a slow mover for me too).

  7. Except for the rather “soft-sounding” guitar chimes, I really like “Crazy” … but songs like “Fez”, “White as Snow” and “Cedars” are just snoozers for me (if I’m battling insomnia, then they do the trick!) 😉
I think NLOTH had some good songs, but also a lot of what I’d call “half-realized” ideas or sketches.
Rico: I’m with you on “POP” — I love that album and recently forced my brother to watch the live PopMart DVD. He thought it would be crap b/c he kinda tuned-out U2 during that phase — but he was blown away.

  9. Pop, as a full record, wasn’t all that great.
Wake Up Dead Man, Velvet Dress, Miami, and Playboy Mansion are b-sides at best.
Take those off and you’ve got a great eight song record.
NLOTH also has a few tracks that are not as good as the others but even they are much better than the weaker tracks on Pop.
I wouldn’t cut a track from NLOTH, but I would move the tracklist around a bit.

  11. Haha. It cracks me up how so many U2 fans say they don’t like the slower-paced songs. Do you all have ADD or what? 😉

  13. Have a read of the lyrics and tell me that they are worthy of being sung in a U2 song.
“He built the world in seven, he’s in charge of heaven.”
    Not Bono’s finest work.
