Lanois is spot on with NLOTH. It’s a brilliant third-of-an-album, but the rest doesn’t maintain the vibe an album like Achtung Baby does for example. It suffers from the same thing HTDAAB had as well, it sounds too finished and produced. As a producer, Lanois knows his role in this and I’m glad he’s acknowledging it. NLOTH is just such a disappointingly underwhelming album, which is bizarre considering the passion and enthusiasm behind it.
